Longstreet Farm sets Fourth of July Fest On Tuesday, July 4 from noon-3 p.m., the Monmouth County Park System will celebrate July Fourth the old-fashioned way at historic Longstreet Farm, Longstreet Road, Holmdel. This event will feature games and contests which were characteristic of turn-of-the-century Independence Day celebrations. Parking and admission are free. Middletown Library sets home buyer’s workshop Middletown Township Public Library will present a workshop for first-time home buyers on June 28 at 7:30 p.m. John Mauro, senior mortgage consultant for First Interstate Financial Corp., will be the guest speaker for the program. First-time home buyers are faced with many questions and decisions. Mr. Mauro will discuss the advantages of home ownership, the various ways to finance, and will give a step-by-step walk through the mortgage process. The free program will be held at Middletown Township Public Library’s headquarters, 55 New Monmouth Road, Middletown. The library’s hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. County park system to hold ‘beachscapes’ From 6-7:30 p.m. on July 5 and 7, the Monmouth County Park System will hold "Beachscapes" at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Activity Center, Ocean Avenue, Long Branch. area residents ages 10 and up are invited to come to the beach at this beautiful time of day to learn more about famous artists that used the ocean as their inspiration. On Wednesday night, participants will explore the beach, discuss artists and their works and sketch. Then on Friday, participants will complete a simple painting using some of the same techniques famous artists use in their work. Please bring a sketch pad and pencil the first night and supplies (a list will be provided) or $3 the second evening. The cost of the program is $26 per person; preregistration is required. Park System programs and camps for kids The Monmouth County Park System will host Roller Hockey Camp at Dorbrook Recreation Area, Route 537, Colts Neck on July 3-7 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $70 per person and youngsters entering third- and fourth-grade, with prior skating experience, may participate. The camp is designed for beginners and will teach fundamentals in forward/backward skating, passing and other maneuvers. Participants must supply their own skates, guards, mouthpiece, and protective cup (if necessary). Helmets with face mask, hockey gloves and sticks will be provided. A supervised swim period may be offered during the week. The system has scheduled Kids Connecting With Their Pets at the Thompson Park Visitor Center on Newman Springs Road, Lincroft on July 9 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Cost of the program is $27 per person, and youngsters age 7 and up will be taught how to connect with the thoughts and energies of their pets. Individuals are urged to bring a few photos of living or deceased pets, and paper and pencil. Youngsters age 4-12 are invited to participate in Roller Kids II at Dorbrook Recreation Area on Sundays, July 9-30. Children age 4-6 will meet from 10:30-11:25 a.m., and age 7-12 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. Cost is $37 per person, and skates and safety equipment are not provided. Designed for students who have mastered the techniques in Roller Kids introductory program, this program offers skates the opportunity to refine their basic skills and learn more advanced techniques of in-line skating.
