LAWRENCE B. LINDSAY, 66, of Middletown, died June 18 at home. Born in Jersey City, he lived in West New York before moving to Middletown in 1970. He was an investigator for the Securities Exchange Commission, N.Y., for 20 years before retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of private 2nd class. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Katuro Lindsay, in 1998. He is survived by a son, Lawrence H. Lindsay II of Leonardo; a daughter, Elaine Lindsay of Middletown; two brothers, Jack Lindsay of Toms River, and Mike Lindsay of Garfield; a sister, Joann Kurdock of Hawthorne, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with entombment today at Holmdel Mausoleum.

VICKI LOVE PILTZIN CHEVEL, 63, of Middletown, died June 16 at Avante at Red Bank Nursing Home. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Hazlet prior to moving to Middletown. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a daughter, Lori Kaner of Belford; two sons, Allen Chevel of Miami, Fla., and Kevin Chevel of Middletown; and one granddaughter. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

KATHLEEN ECKART MOORE, 89, of Stuart, Fla., died June 17 at home. Born in Keyport, she lived there until 1996. She was a professor at Newark State College and retired in 1974. Previously she worked as a helping teacher for the New Jersey state Department of Education, and was principal of Union Beach Public School. She is predeceased by her husband, Dinty Moore, in 1974. She is survived by a niece, Kathleen Rusnak of Stuart, Fla.; a cousin, Henry Meehan of Keansburg; two grand-nieces; and one grand-nephew. Arrangements were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Burial will be today in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

DAVID L. DEAN, 48, of Cliffwood, died June 19 at home. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Matawan before moving to Cliffwood 12 years ago. He worked for Emerson Quiet Kool, Woodbridge, and most recently as a truck driver for Nu Co, Newark, for four years. He was a 1970 graduate of Matawan High School, and his favorite pastime was online trading. He was predeceased by his mother, Beverly, in 1983. He is survived by his father, Howard Dean of Keyport; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Dean of Little Silver; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rachel Hudson of Waldorf, Md., Rebecca and James Raffa of Cliffwood Beach, Susan and Morgan McNulty of Freehold; and 10 nieces and nephews. Services were arranged by Waitt Funeral Home, Morganville, with a memorial service at First Unitarian Church of Monmouth County, Lincroft. Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 131 Bath Ave., Long Branch 07740.

JOHN DALTON, 77, of Mount Pocono, Pa., died June 20 at home. Born in Carteret, he was a life-long resident of Matawan before moving to Mount Pocono six months ago. He was a car salesman for many years at Toms Ford, Keyport, and Irwin Lincoln Mercury, Freehold, before retiring in 1989. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Mae Dalton, in 1989. He is survived by a son, Terry Dalton of Mount Pocono; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Seldin of Mount Pocono; a sister, Helen Sauickie of Union Beach; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services were arranged by Waitt Funeral Home, Morganville, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.

LORETTA SMITH RIEGER, 68, of Leonardo, died June 21 at home. Born in Troy, N.Y., she previously lived in Hazlet and the Port Monmouth section of Middletown before moving to Leonardo 41 years ago. She was a barmaid for Veterans of Foreign War Post #2179 in Port Monmouth for 40 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #2179. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Rieger, in 1984. She is survived by a son, Gordon K. and daughter-in-law, Carla Rieger of Port Monmouth; a daughter, Kim and son-in-law, Ken Watson of Trent, Texas; three sisters, Pat Stagich of Hazlet, Carol Bishop of Fla., and Jill Tornabene of Ga.; two brothers, Bill Smith of Union Beach, and Jack Smith of Fla.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with cremation at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

LUTHER OWENS, 78, of Union Beach, died June 21 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Kentucky, he lived in Old Bridge before moving to Union Beach three years ago. He was a set-up man for Bien Fang Paper Co., Metuchen, for 20 years before retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Little Owens of Union Beach; a son, James Owens of Keansburg; four daughters, Barbara Straus of Lincoln, Mass., Ellen Ronnau of Beaverton, Ore., Margaret Rose of Union Beach, and Kathleen Tkoch of Old Bridge; a sister, Hazel Madden of Indianapolis, Ind.; and four grandchildren. Services were arranged by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with burial at Cloverleaf Cemetery, Woodbridge.

JOHN RICHARDS, 74, of Hazlet, died June 22 at home. Born in Orange, he lived in Hillside and Union before moving to Hazlet 53 years ago. He built sub stations and was a supervisor for Jersey Central Power and Light Co., Union Beach, for 29 years before retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army in the 76th Infantry 3rd in Germany from September 1944 to July 1946 during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth J. Richards, in 1999. He is survived by a brother, George W. Richards of Haines City, Fla.; a nephew, George W. Richards of Hazlet; and a niece, Dawn Gaudenti of Hazlet. Arrangements were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with a funeral Mass at Faith Reform Church, Hazlet. Memorial donations may be sent to the First Reformed Church, 215 Middle Road, Hazlet 07730.

MARTIN MALLOY, 88, of Laurence Harbor, died June 24 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in the Bronx, he moved to Laurence Harbor 25 years ago. He was a truck driver for Railway Express, N.Y. for 40 years until retirement in 1975. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Laurence Harbor. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Malloy of Laurence Harbor; two daughters, Mary Pat Malloy of Laurence Harbor, and Kathy Balent of Middlesex; two sons, Ryan Malloy of Aspen, Colo., and James P. Malloy of Keyport; two sisters, Margaret McGough of Keyport, and Elizabeth Grady of Westwood, N.J.; and one grandson. Arrangements were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with a Mass at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be sent to Wethered J. MARILYN C. SLOAN FASANO, 67, of Middletown, died June 25 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Middletown 27 years ago. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Louis Fasano; three sons, John J. Fasano of Austin, Texas, Mark L. Fasano of Union Beach, and Paul G. Fasano of Middletown; two daughters, Carol Ann Monte of Howell, and Kathryn Ann Gullstrand of Keansburg; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with a Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. Interment was at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo.

ALICE E. BEATTY CROWE, 73, of Old Bridge died June 14 at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic. Surviving are her husband, Edward; three sons, Kevin of Lawrenceville, Edward of Hazlet and David of Old Bridge; two daughters, Elizabeth of Howell and Bridget of Old Bridge; one brother, Robert Beatty of the Bronx, NY; one sister, Eileen Daddato of Bricktown; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a Mass at St. Ambrose Church, also Old Bridge. Interment was in Forest Green Park Cemetery, Marlboro.

CLAUDE ROMANO, 89, of The Villages, Howell, died May 21 at Bartley Healthcare, Jackson. Born in New York, he resided in Newark before moving to Howell in 1972. A graduate of the Newark College of Engineering, Mr. Romano was an engineer with General Electric, Bloomfield, for more than 30 years, and then with Tenney Engineering, Union, for 25 years, retiring in 1972. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, Freehold Township. He was a member of the Senior Social Club and the Friendship Club, both of The Villages. Mr. Romano was predeceased by his wife, Marian, who died in 1992. Surviving are two sons, Claude R. of Matawan, and Peter S. of Linden; a brother, Michael of Cedar Grove; a sister, Lucille Mellilo of Newark; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by entombment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements.

RUTH M. McDONALD, 89, of Silvermead, Freehold Township, died June 22 at home She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, where she resided until moving to Freehold Township six years ago. Mrs. McDonald was predeceased by her husband, William, who died in 1959. Surviving are three daughters, Karen Fudge of Milwaukee, Wis., Marilyn Quinn of Freehold, and Sharon Sipek of Camp Hill, Pa.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
