Greater Media purchases Tri-Town News
Greater Media News-papers has announced its purchase of the Tri-Town News from Rockfleet Media Inc. Terms of the sale, which was to be finalized Jan. 18, were not disclosed. The Tri-Town News, established in 1987 and owned by Rockfleet Media, is a 35,000-circulation weekly newspaper that covers Howell, Lakewood, Jackson and Plumsted. Production of the paper will be moved from Rockfleet Media’s current offices in Jackson to Greater Media Newspapers’ main office in Freehold Township. Greater Media Newspapers publishes seven weekly newspapers in Middlesex and Monmouth counties, as well as one monthly publication that targets adult communities in Monroe Township, Middlesex County. With the purchase of the Tri-Town News, combined circulation for Greater Media Newspapers’ publications now will be approximately 205,000. The company’s Middlesex County newspapers are the East Brunswick Sentinel, the Subur-ban, the North-South Brunswick Sentinel and the monthly Monroe Living. Its Monmouth County publications are the News Transcript, the Examiner, the Independent and The Hub. Kevin Witt-man, publisher of Greater Media News-papers, said the addition of the Tri-Town News to the company’s family of community newspapers is an exciting development for readers and advertisers. "This is a wonderful time in Ocean and Monmouth counties," Wittman said this week. "This is the fastest-growing area in the state, with an incredibly vibrant retail and housing market. "We look forward to growing with these communities in the coming years and providing our readers with a weekly package of award-winning community journalism," Wittman said. Mark Rosman, managing editor of the News Transcript, Greater Media Newspapers’ largest publication, will assume duties as managing editor of the Tri-Town News and will supervise the company’s expanded coverage of the publication’s circulation area. Greater Media Newspapers’ plans include increased news coverage, expanded photographic coverage and a redesign of the newspaper. "We have been covering Howell in the News Transcript for many years, and I am excited we will now be moving into the Ocean County communities of Jackson, Lakewood and Plumsted," Rosman said. "I know there are many stories to be covered in these communities and we are looking forward to providing our readers with the kind of informative, balanced community newspaper we can all be proud of." |
