Hospital’s treatment irks Holmdel resident
An open letter to Bayshore Community Hospital:

Please do something about your preadmission testing. When I am given a time to arrive, be sure your staff is ready to receive me. I should not find a dark room and a locked door. When you give me a four-page, none-of-your-business form attached to a clipboard, it is not necessary to give me a 3-foot-long pen with which to fill it out. I won’t steal your pen. Provide me with a private place in which to change my clothes and a locker to store the clothes I have removed. I don’t like carrying my underwear through your building.

Provide me with a designated rest room to use to leave my urine sample. I don’t appreciate a public bathroom with health club members banging on the door to get in. Let me leave that sample in the rest room, rather than carrying it through waiting rooms along with my shirt, underwear and the clipboard with the 3-foot-long pen.

Provide me with a private place in which to take a cardiogram, not a multi-use room secured by a curtain. Instruct your technician on how to take a cardiogram without fully exposing my breasts; it is done in other hospitals. Why even bother with the gown? Be prompt with my chest X-ray so I don’t have to wait 45 minutes in a waiting room full of fully dressed people, wearing a gown and carrying my assortment of goodies. After my X-ray, provide me with adequate changing facilities. Just because the utility closet now says "changing room" doesn’t mean it is.

Be prepared to take my co-payment so I do not have to wait for someone from accounting to come down. Make sure she has change and a receipt so I don’t have to wait for her to go get it. When I complain, don’t have some smart-mouth PR person call me and say the rooms were clean and everything is hunky-dory; it isn’t. I should be able to leave your hospital with my dignity intact.
