Middletown story-time registration under way

Middletown Library, 55 New Monmouth Road, is still holding registration for its story-time program for children ages 2-5.

The program will feature films, stories, finger plays, crafts and other children’s activities. A "bedtime" story time is also available Mondays from 7:30-8 p.m.

Twp. planner to speak

to Lincroft Village Assoc.

The Lincroft Village Green Association is holding a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at a meeting room in the Lincroft Inn, corner of Newman Springs and Middletown-Lincroft roads. This event is free and open to the public. Tony Mercantante, director of planning for Middletown Township, will give a presentation on planning and zoning and how citizens can become involved in the planning process.

Workshop on college financing Sept. 13

Middletown High School South, 501 Nutswamp Road, will offer a free workshop on college financing Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

Consumer advocate William Lynch will conduct the workshop. Topics to be covered include legal loopholes in financial aid formulas, colleges with the best financial aid, and how to pay for out-of-pocket college costs.

Minis-Tree to begin Bible study Sept. 13

The Women’s Minis-Tree of Lincroft Bible Church, 790 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown, will begin its fall Bible study classes Sept. 13 from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Child care is available, and all women are welcome.

Hook to offer several September events

Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook will sponsor several events this month,.

The program "Families Investigate Science Hands-On" will take place Sept. 15, 22 and 23 at the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium, Bldg. 22. The three-hour program is for either families or individuals, and a fee will be charged. For reservations, time or more information, call (732) 872-1300, ext. 30.

A salt-marsh walk is scheduled for Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. and will depart from the visitor center. A Brookdale Community College "Family Moonwalk" will be held Sept. 18 at Brookdale College Ocean Institute, Bldg. 53. Reservations are necessary and a fee will be charged. A two-mile "Equinox Night Walk" with the American Littoral Society will be held Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. (meet at Guardian Park). A "Fort Hancock Architecture Walk" will be Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. and will commence at the post theater.

The slide show "Defenders of the Nation’s Skies" is scheduled for Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the post theater and will highlight the air defense system. Afterward, attendees will visit the fort’s Nike missile site. A "Monarch Butterfly Walk" will be led by a park ranger Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. Attendees should meet at the visitor center.

Calvary Chapel sets flea market this Saturday

Calvary Chapel, Middletown, will hold a flea market Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 810 Route 36, Leonardo section of Middletown. Vendor space is still available. Refreshments will also be available at the market.

County to offer free composting workshops

The Monmouth County Planning Board has announced the county is again offering composting workshops to area residents.

The free workshops will be held on the following dates: Sept. 15, Oct. 6 and Nov. 3 at 10 a.m., Deep Cut Gardens, 252 Red Hill Road, Middletown; Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., Ocean Township Recreation Center, West Park Avenue, Ocean Township.

Discounted composting bins will also be available for purchase, with the Earth Machine (enclosed bin) priced at $25, and the Handy Composter (open bin) priced at $10. There is a limit of one type of each bin per household.

Society announces 2001-02 concert series

The Red Bank Chamber Music Society has announced its 2001-02 concert season with all performances taking place at the performing arts center at Brookdale Community College, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown.

The society will be sending tickets to interested individuals. The concerts are free. Individuals with tickets will be seated before those requesting admission and not holding tickets.

The performance schedule is: Sept. 15 with Vladislav Kovalsky and the Amabile quartet; Nov. 3 with Kovalsky, Leon Knize and the Raritan Winds; Jan. 12 with the Amabile quartet, Kovalsky and Knize; and Feb. 16 with the quartet, Knize, Kovalsky, Mikyung Lee, and the Raritan Winds.

Completing the schedule on April 28 is the quartet, Kovalsky, and a guest cellist; and June 22 with the Raritan Winds, Knize, the quartet, and guest strings and winds. All performances are at 8 p.m., with the exception of the April 28 concert, which is at 7:30 p.m.

To reserve tickets, individuals should send a self-addressed stamped envelope for each concert no earlier than 30 days prior to the performance.

Individuals should indicate the number of tickets needed (one per attendee), but the society will not reserve seats beyond the first concert, if an individual asks for tickets to all performances at once. The society asks individuals to only request for tickets for immediate family. Also included with the request should be the individual’s phone number.

The free concerts are a gift, courtesy of Red Bank Volvo, Volvo Cars of North America, to members of the society’s audience.
