"PEGGY" BOYD RIVEST, 42, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died Sept. 10 at home. Born in Red Bank, she lived in Keansburg prior to moving to Port Monmouth 10 years ago. She was a real estate agent. She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence Rivest and Dorothy Foster. She is survived by her daughter and son, Janine and Keith Boyd of Port Monmouth; her companion, Rick Hein of Port Monmouth; and three sisters, Patricia Grable of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, Ellen Rivest of Keansburg, and Dorie Strongoli of West Keansburg. A funeral liturgy was celelbrated at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. TONY PERITO, 90, of Hazlet died Sept. 10 at Regency Park Nursing Center, Hazlet. Born in Brockton, Mass., he lived in Brooklyn for 54 years, and the Belford section of Middletown before moving to Hazlet one year ago. He was a bricklayer for Bricklayer Union Local No. 1, Brooklyn, for 40 years, retiring in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Rago Perito of Hazlet; his son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Diane Perito of Middletown; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Alberta and Joe Oliva of Belford, and Elaine and Andy Bardell of Manahawkin. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. SWEDE JOSEPH CHEVALIER, 26, of the Locust section of Middletown died Sept. 11, the victim of the attack on the World Trade Center. He was employed by the equities trading division of Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center. While attending Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, he established his own landscaping business, Holly Hill Farms, where he still performed landscaping in his spare time. He graduated from The Peddie School, Hightstown; and Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Ithaca, N.Y. While at Cornell, he was president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, and was inducted into an honorary society for campus leaders, the Sphinx Head. He is survived by his parents, Elaine and Vernon Chevalier of Locust; his sisters, Tylia and Brittany Chevalier, also of Locust; his companion, Melissa Markewich; his grandparents, Joseph and Helen Polguy, and Vernon Chevalier Sr., all of Sayreville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be Sept. 19 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Sept. 20 at 9 a.m., also at St. Mary’s Church. Born in Bradville, she lived in Keyport prior to moving to Freehold 15 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, William Merrell in 1964. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Sieben of Freehold; three sons, William Merrell of Freehold, Richard Merrell of Ocean Township, and Robert Merrell of Phillipsburg; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. EDWARD F. BOEHM, 80, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Holmdel, died Sept. 12 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Fla. Born in New York City, he resided in Holmdel and retired to Florida in 1984. He was a retired senior vice president of Phelps Dodge Communications Products Co., Marlboro. He served with the U.S. Marines during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. His hobbies included golf and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred H. Boehm of Venice, Fla.; two sons, Dr. Clifford E. Boehm of Ellicott City, Md., and Michael Boehm of Brick; three daughters, Irene Redmiles of Davidsonville, Md., Mary Fetzer of Toms River, and Laura Bowne of Edgewater, Md.; and 10 grandchildren. MARY COPPOLA, 82, of Hazlet died Sept. 14 at St. Barnabas Hospital, Livingston. Born in Queens, N.Y., she lived there for 40 years until moving to Hazlet six years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Rocco Coppola in 2000. She is survived by her son, Joseph Coppola of Massapequa, N.Y.; her daughter, Maria Miller of Port Monmouth; two granddaughters; and one grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Park, Woodbridge. JAMES P. KEOUGH, 51, of Hazlet died Sept. 16 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa. Born in New York City, he lived there until moving to Hazlet 23 years ago. He was an active conductor for NJ Transit the past 28 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Karen Keough of Hazlet; his son, James P. Keough Jr. of Hazlet; his daughter, Kimberly A. Keough of Hazlet; his mother-in-law, Muriel Cleary of New York City; five sisters, Barbara Devaney of Fairview, Margaret Barnable of North Bergen, Mary Slane of Jersey City, Carol Latavish of Guttenberg, and Cathy Bogle of Union; two brothers, Gil Keough of Edison, and Dan Keough of Clifton; and one grandson. Visitation will be Sept. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and Sept. 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. TAVAGLIONE DAMATO, 77, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown died Sept. 17 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Orange, she lived most of her life in Port Monmouth. She was a homemaker. Her hobbies included bingo and traveling to Atlantic City. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Damato, in 2000. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cecie and Felix Binaco of Middletown, Donna and Jack Cusick of Port Monmouth, and Susan Porcello of Highlands; four sisters, Vintry Dombeck of East Orange, Christine Tavaglione of West Orange, Lena Cocozziello of Bricktown, and Mary Intile of West Orange; her brother, Michael Tavaglione of Manahawkin; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 19 from 1-4 p.m., and a funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. DENIS CLARK HYLAND, 68, of Matawan died Sept. 9 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in New York City, he lived there before moving to Aberdeen in 1963. He was employed in the fields of publishing and music, owned his own music production business, and most recently taught music. He was a communicant of St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, lector, cantor, and minister of care. He served as a journalist in the U.S. Navy from 1955-57. He was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Horan Hyland, in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Faas of Matawan; three daughters, Anne Marie Sparaco of Wayside, Catherine Zavorskas of Aberdeen, and Mary Elizabeth Koewer of Chester; three sons, Denis Hyland of New York City, James Hyland of Toms River, and Terence Hyland of Howell; his sister, Mary Skahill of Broomall, Pa.; his brother, Kevin Hyland of Newtown; and 14 grandchildren.
