Group to hold trip to ‘Christmas City, USA’

The Monmouth County Genealogy Society, Lincroft section of Middletown, will present "Finding Living Relatives" at its next meeting Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Eatontown Community Center, 58 Broad St.

Speaker John Konvalinka will demonstrate how computers and the Internet may be used with genealogy research to locate living relatives.

The society will sponsor a trip to "Christmas City, USA" in Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 14.

The bus will depart from the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, 1001 Route 35, Shrewsbury, at 9 a.m., and the Monmouth County Library at 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, at 9:30 a.m.; approximate return time is 8:30 p.m.

Cost is $65 which includes transportation; luncheon; admissions to the Sun Inn, Moravian Museum and bookstore, and "Christkindlmarkt" German holiday market; an evening bus tour of the lighted city; and gratuities. Registration deadline is Nov. 15.

American Legion family breakfast Nov. 11

Sons of American Legion Post No. 338 will hold a family breakfast Nov. 11 from 8 a.m.-noon at the post hall on Route 36, Leonardo section of Middletown. Cost is $5, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children under age 12.

The breakfast will include eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, pancakes, French toast, and beverages.

‘Sunday in the Park’ slated Nov. 11 and 18

Poricy Park, Oak Hill Road, will continue its "Sunday in the Park" series with a "Hands-on Dulcimer Program" Nov. 11 from 1-2 p.m. at the nature center. The free program will be led by folk musician Bonnie Leigh.

A holiday greeting card workshop will be Nov. 18 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the nature center, and cost is $3 for members and $4 for nonmembers. Participants will learn how to create cards using rubber stamps, natural ingredients, and paper-folding techniques.

Organ Society plans concert for Nov. 12

The Monmouth Organ Society will present a concert by organist Jeff Barker Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. at Jacques Reception Center, Palmer Avenue, East Keansburg section of Middletown.

Brookdale open house slated for Nov. 8

Brookdale Community College, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown, will hold an open house for high school seniors Nor. 8 at 9:30 a.m. The event will be at the performing art center, and tours and refreshments will be provided.

‘Over the River & Thru the Woods’ at playhouse

The First Avenue Playhouse, 123 First Ave., Atlantic Highlands, will present Over the River & Thru the Woods Nov. 2-24. Show times are Thursday-Saturday at 8:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The play concerns "Nick," a single Italian-American male and how his grandparents scheme to get him involved with "Caitlin" and to keep him from moving away.

Tickets range from $10-$29. Dinner package price is $24 for Thursday and Sunday, and $29 for Friday-Saturday. Dinner is offered before the show at The Wild Scallion, Leonardo section of Middletown.

PTO’s ‘Harvest Holiday Happening’ Nov. 8

Oak Hill Academy’s Parent Organization, Lincroft section of Middletown, will hold its "Harvest Holiday Happening" Nov. 8 from 7-10 p.m. at The Channel Club, Channel Drive, Monmouth Beach. Cost is $45 per person, which includes a buffet dinner.

The event will feature items from local vendors such as Galleria Gold Company, Kingsley Art Gallery, and Pauline’s Papery, Red Bank; and Liguori and Hunt, Colts Neck. Other items include baskets, pottery, toys, and home accessories.

Poricy Park offers mini camp for grades 3-6

Poricy Park Nature Center, Oak Hill Road, Middletown, will offer a "mini camp" Nov. 8-9 for children in grades 3-6. Each day will consist of two sessions, 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3 p.m. Cost per session is $22 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Cost for all sessions is $75 for members and $100 for nonmembers.

The camp will take place during the New Jersey teachers convention, and children may register for as many sessions as desired. Children are asked to bring a bag lunch.

The program features a tour of the Murray Farm, "Art in the Park," a Harry Potter segment "Harry at Hogwarts," a program on fossils, and other activities.

Monmouth Art Festival

at Brookdale Nov. 9-11

Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, will host the Monmouth Art Festival Nov. 9-11. The school is at 765 Newman Springs Road.

Festival hours are Nov. 9 from 5-9 p.m., Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Price is $6 for a weekend pass, and children under age 10 are admitted free.

Marine Corps plans anniversary ball Nov. 9

The United States Marine Corps League Phillip K. Dorn Detachment, Leonardo section of Middletown, will hold its "226th Anniversary Birthday Ball" Nov. 9 from 7 p.m.-midnight.

Shore Music Educators meeting set for Nov. 9

Program about Sept. 11 compensation fund set

The Alliance of Neighbors of Monmouth County will present a program on the "Sept. 11 Victim Compensation Fund" Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Brookdale Community College, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown.

The free program will be led by Brian Drazin of the New Jersey Trial Lawyers Association, who will explain citizens’ rights under federal law as well a proposed tax legislation, and will familiarize families with the victim compensation fund.

California trip slide presentation Nov. 14

St. Mary’s travel group, New Monmouth section of Middletown, will offer a nine-day California coast tour to depart April 20. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and credit cards are accepted.

A meeting and slide presentation will be given by a Collette tour representative Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church (lower meeting room) at Leonardville Road, New Monmouth.
