Commander proud to be an American I am proud to be an American, and will always be. I was proud of America when I was in the Air Force on two tours of duty in Vietnam and, if it’s at all possible, I am even more proud now. The American people have united in brotherhood behind our great nation, and their support and generosity following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks have been monumental. Buoyed by expressions of thanks from individuals, rescue workers and the victims’ families, I vow to continue all possible efforts the Salvation Army, N.J. Division, can make. To date, servicing rescue and relief personnel, survivors and victims’ families, has amounted to more than 64,598 meals that have been served and 163,705 items distributed, which include clothing, tools and other supplies. Plans for regional assistance centers are in progress. These centers will be manned with counselors and staff, providing easy access to Salvation Army relief services for victims’ families not able to visit the Liberty State Park Family Assistance Center. For more information, to volunteer or to make a donation, call Tricia Pellegrini at divisional headquarters at (908) 851-8227. Lt. Col. Norman E. Wood N.J.
