Oxley, staff congratulated for handling of situation

My wife, Carolyn Sue, was one of the striking teachers in the dispute between the Middletown teachers and the Middletown Board of Education. So for five days I was a witness to the events that were taking place at the Monmouth County Hall of Records and the courthouse.

Sheriff Joseph Oxley, his undersheriff, and his men did an outstanding job handling a most difficult situation. They had a job to do and they did it well, but they extended every possible courtesy to the teachers, the media, and the public. Even the teachers leaving the jail commented on the professional, yet compassionate manner in which they had been treated.

I suggested at the scene and I suggest to those that read this and agree, to send a note of thanks to Sheriff Oxley and his staff. Truly, they are Monmouth County’s finest.

Frank A. Self
