‘Women in Business Luncheon’ May 1

The Northern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce (NMCC), Navesink section of Middletown, will hold a "Women in Business Luncheon" May 1 at 11:45 a.m. at Branches, Monmouth Road, West Long Branch. Cost is $30 for non members, and $25 in advance, and $25 for members, and $20 in advance.

Guest speaker Mary Jane Devlin of Botanical Accents, Aberdeen, will present "Creating a Perennial Garden." Luncheon sponsor is Aquatica Salon & Day Spa, Shrewsbury.

League of Women Voters to hold convention

The League of Women Voters of New Jersey will hold its 55th biennial convention May 2-4 at the Holiday Inn, Hope Road, Tinton Falls. The guest speaker will be Bradley Campbell, Department of Environmental Protection commissioner. The honoree will be Pfizer Corp., sponsor of the League’s publication The New Jersey Citizen’s Guide to Government.

Commission honors area community members

The Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners recently presented awards to local members of the county’s recreation community at a March 31 ceremony.

Receiving the Outstanding Volunteer Award was Samuel Shramko, Holmdel Township, who serves on the Holmdel Bayonet Farm Advisory Committee. According to a press release, Shramko has spent countless hours working with contractors, supervising work, doing yard work and emergency repairs to put the farm back in working order.

The Victor E. Grossinger Annual Achievement Award for Innovative Recreation Programming went to Middletown Township’s "Duckoration 2003," in which students, Scout groups and artists decorated 12-inch plastic ducks with various themes. The program forged a partnership between the Middletown Cultural and Arts Council, and the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Special People United to Ride (SPUR), Lincroft section of Middletown, received an award for being the driving force behind the construction of the Monmouth County Park System’s new Sunnyside Equestrian Center, Lincroft.

The Board of Recreation Commissioners has presented 168 awards to Monmouth County individuals, programs and facilities since 1980. For more information about the 2004 awards program, call Laura Kirkpatrick at (732) 842-4000, ext. 4256.

Greenway Trail ‘Wildflower Walk’ May 4

The Holmdel Environmental Commis-sion will hold a Greenway Trail "Wildflower Walk" May 4 from 1-3:30 p.m. from Bayonet Farm to Cross Farm, Holmdel. The free walk will travel through the Ramanessin Nature Preserve to Cross Farm and the Swimming River Reservoir.
