OBITUARIES

CAROLE A. COSTELLO, 61, of Toms River and formerly Aberdeen, died July 21 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Aberdeen prior to moving to Toms River five years ago. She was a salesperson at Fortunoff, Woodbridge, for eight years, retiring in 1997. She is survived by her husband, William Costello of Toms River; her son, Todd Costello of Hamilton; her daughter, Melissa Costello of Los Angeles; her brother, Joseph Lukasiewicz of Florida; and one granddaughter. Visitation will be July 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A funeral service will be July 25 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.

ANGELA KARDEL CARNAK of Union Beach died July 19 at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Stratford. Born in Jersey City, she was a resident of Union Beach for several years. Mrs. Carnak was an assembly line worker at Nabisco Inc., Fairlawn, for 40 years, retiring in 1972. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence B. Carnak in 1978. Mrs. Carnak is survived by four nephews, John Brennan of Maryland, Robert Brennan of Lakewood, John Kardel of Atlantic Highlands, and John Courtney of Aberdeen; and her niece, Pat Matthews of Marlton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered July 23 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

THOMAS F. ZIMMERMAN SR., 79, of Hazlet died July 13 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Plymouth, Pa., he resided there before moving to Hazlet 43 years ago. He was an assemblyman at General Motors, Linden, for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne during World War II and re­ceived the Purple Heart. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union Local No. 595. He is survived by his wife, Emily Koliga Zimmerman of Hazlet; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward Zimmerman of Highlands, and Thomas F. and Karen Zimmerman Jr. of the U.S. Virgin Islands; his brother, George Zimmerman of Mount Pocono, Pa.; his sister, Leah Gill of Livingston; and two granddaughters.

ELEANOR DUNN SUYETO, 77, of the Leonardo section of Middletown died July 14 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She resided in Linden and Westfield before moving to Leonardo 20 years ago. She was a buyer at WT Grant Clark for five years, retiring in 1985. She is survived by two brothers, Harry Dunn of Brielle and Richard Dunn of Edison; her sister, Shirley Herder of Leonardo, with whom she lived; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Westfield.

JOSEPHINE ROSE ZIMMERMAN, 78, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died July 9 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Roselle before moving to Lincroft 46 years ago. Mrs. Zimmerman was employed at the Monmouth County Board of Social Services, Freehold, for 25 years before her retirement. She was an active parishioner and teacher of religious instruction for several years at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. She was a member and past president of the St. Ann Guild and was active in senior citizen groups. Mrs. Zimmerman was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Zimmerman; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Gunther. She is survived by a son, Edward H. Zimmerman Jr. of Holmdel; three daughters, Patricia Ray of Middletown, Karen Busichio of Long Branch, and Joanne Zimmerman of Vineland; two sisters, Elizabeth Brady of Kenilworth, and Frances Brodin of Scotch Plains; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft, followed by interment at Holmdel Cemetery.

THEODORE EDWARD FERRO, 59, of Aberdeen, died July 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born in Newark and raised in Englishtown. He moved to Aberdeen two years ago. Mr. Ferro was employeed at ShopRite of Aberdeen. Prior to that he was employeed at Washington Forge Company, Englishtown, and Waltrich Plastics, Manalapan. Surviving are a brother and a sister-in-law, Edward and Annie Ferro, Freehold; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Les Floyd, Sutton, W.Va.; an aunt, Marie Hallbauer and her husband, Robert, Edison; an uncle, Matthew Trivett, and his wife, Antoinette, Toms River; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family would be appreciated.

HILDA M. VAN NOTE CARHART, 82, of Long Branch died July 2 at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch. Born in Neptune, she was a lifelong resident of Long Branch. Mrs. Carhart was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1985; and a son, Robert Carhart, in 1982. She is survived by four sons, Charles Carhart of Florida, George Carhart and Andrew DeMarc, both of California, and Gene Malleus of Middletown; two daughters, Marielena Mickey of Long Branch and Lorraine Sferlazzo of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 300 Second Ave., CW6, Long Branch 07740.

MARIAN HYER DANLEY, 86, of South River died May 24 in McCarrick Care Center, Somerset section of Franklin. Her husband, Walter Danley, died in 1983. Surviving are a son, Walter Danley of East Brunswick; a daughter, Bonnie Boettger of North Brunswick; two sisters, Evelyn Danley of South River and Madeline Meissner of Keyport; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

JOSEPH GAJ, 78, of Freehold died July 16 at home. Born in Otalez, Mielec, Poland, he lived in Germany before moving to Freehold in 1951. Mr. Gaj was a maintenance employee at the 3M Co., Freehold Township, for 25 years before retiring 17 years ago. Before that, he was a custom weaver for the A&M Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. Mr. Gaj is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Kirkitcha Gaj; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marian and Kathy Gaj of Millstone, and Paul and Donna Gaj of Howell; a sister, Cecilia Sienkowski of Allentown; and four grandchildren. Interment took place at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
