Student life center named for Tinton Falls resident

Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, will formally dedicate its student life center Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. The center was named for Donald D. Warner, Tinton Falls, who retired as chairman of the board of trustees after 18 years of service. The event will follow four days of activities celebrating the center, which will open on Oct. 6.

Warner began his tenure as a board member in 1984 and served on the educational services, buildings and grounds, and human resources committees. He was elected chairman in 1993 and served in that capacity until his retirement in September.

Prior to joining Brookdale, Warner served as superintendent of the Red Bank Regional School District for 23 years. After his retirement from the school district, he earned his master of arts degree in theology and Christian education at Princeton Theological Seminary. He has since served as interim pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Red Bank, and Mount Pisgah Baptist Temple, Asbury Park.

His community involvement includes a member of the board of trustees at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch; a member of 180 Turning Lives Around (formerly the Women’s Center of Monmouth County) advisory board; vice president of the Red Bank Initiative; and member of the board of directors of the Parker Family Health Center, Red Bank.

He was also appointed to Gov. Christine Todd Whitman’s Educational Task Force as chairman of the Monmouth Vicinage Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns.
