Football video wins award
By maura dowgin KEYPORT — The state champion football team’s winning streak did not end when the season ended. The high school video production class produced a video about the 2002-03 school football team and their march to victory called "On the Road." The video won honorable mention in a national competition, said John Dumford, superintendent of schools. The students won an honorable mention citation in the 2003 National Student Television Award of Excellence Competition. The students participated in the New York chapter of the competition for schools in New York and New Jersey, said Richard Salvatoriello, television production teacher at Keyport High School. "Over 200 entries were submitted for our area," Salvatoriello said. There were awards given for first through third place, and 10 honorable mentions. Keyport High School was the only school from the Bayshore area among the winners. Eight of the winning schools were from New Jersey and five were from New York. Keyport High School students who participated in the video project were Chris Bellotti, Pat DeNardo, Jenna Dorsi, Jessica Labracio, Kyle Kmetz, Teresa McCabe, Joe Reed, Krystle Reyes, Alyssa Sosa, Sarah Toomey, and Christine Wilson. The students really make the school proud, Dumford said. They produced the entire video, coming up with the idea, and shooting and editing the footage, Salvatoriello said. The students interviewed members of the team and the coaches about the season, what winning the state championship meant to them, and how hard it was not playing their home field due to the problems the district has had with the construction of its new athletic fields. The class also spliced in footage of the winning moment of the state championship game for dramatic effect. The award-winning video will be broadcast on the local cable channel June 9 at 7 p.m., said Dumford. |
