ARNOLD G. CARLSEN, 90, of Middletown died Feb. 1 at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Oradell, Montclair and Colts Neck before moving to Middletown in 1978. Mr. Carlsen was a retired salesman for Phillips Roofing and Siding, Wanamassa section of Ocean Township, where he was employed 18 years. He also owned and operated Carlsen Home Modernizing, Hackensack. He was an exempt fireman for the Oradell Fire Department. His memberships included the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas More Council, Westwood. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Carlsen and Vincent Carlsen; and two sisters, Mae Alford and Belle Gazolla. He is survived by his wife, Florence Pypec Carlsen of Middletown; three daughters, Patricia McCulloch of Onancock, Va., Christine Ely of Franklin Lakes, and Ann Lorraine Nantz of Westport, Conn.; his son, Kenneth Carlsen of North Beach; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral gathering will be held Feb. 5 at 8:15 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Colts Neck. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.

MARIA CONTE, 91, of Middletown died Feb. 3 at Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she was raised in Italy and resided in East Orange before moving to Middletown 29 years ago. Mrs. Conte was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Nunzio Conte; two sons, Frank Conte of Clearwater, Fla., and Vincent Conte of Colonia; two daughters, Carmella DellaDonna and Teresa Longo, both of Middletown; her sister, Margaret Adipietro of Barberton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Feb. 5 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be held Feb. 6 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

ANTONIE F. "TONI" QUEDENFELD HINZ, 88, of Holmdel died Feb. 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Germany, she resided in the Belford section of Middletown prior to moving to Holmdel. Her activities included camping vacations with her husband in her and her husband’s camper. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter J. Hinz in 1998. She is survived by her son, Walter R. Hinz of Keyport; her daughter, Gundel Rieck of Elizaville, N.Y.; her brother, Siegfried Quedenfeld of Germany; and one granddaughter, Karen Rieck. HELEN E. FROTTON HOLCK, 68, of Middletown died Feb. 1 in Middletown. Born in Newark, she resided in Lyndhurst prior to moving to Middletown four years ago. Mrs. Holck was a food demonstrator at Costco, Hazlet. Her activities included spending time with her family, reading and going to the beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Glen L. Holck. She is survived by a son, Glen Holck of Middletown; two daughters, MaryLyn Caruso of Middletown, with whom she lived, and Doreen Hoffmann of Middletown; four sisters, Gloria DeMarco of Columbus, Marie McPhail of Normandy Beach, Joan Jarvis of Lavalette, and Eileen Lambiase of Nutley; and eight grandchildren. JOSEPH F. LOPES, 77, of Tinton Falls died Feb. 2 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, he moved to Middletown in 1954 and resided there and in Keansburg before moving to Tinton Falls seven years ago. Mr. Lopes was senior vice president at Brunswick Bank & Trust Co., East Brunswick, retiring in 1995. Prior to that, he held management positions at several local banks and was New Jersey State Bank Examiner for the State of New Jersey for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft section of Middletown. He was a former communicant of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown, for more than 30 years. His activities included golf. He is survived by his wife, Joan Mathison Lopes; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Nanci Lopes, and his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Larry Kopp, all of Tinton Falls; his sister, Josephine Lopes of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. DOROTHY J. CUSICK EDMOND, 73, of Eatontown died Jan. 16 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she resided in Shrewsbury Township prior to moving to Eatontown eight years ago. Mrs. Edmond was a domestic worker for several local families. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Her activities included baseball and she was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. She is survived by two sons, Kevin T. Kelly of Eatontown and Paul Kelly of Piscataway; two daughters, Karen Acevedo and Kathy Golbieski, both of Eatontown; her brother, Thomas Cusick of Fair Haven; her sister, Winifred Methe of Middletown; and six grandchildren. EDWARD A. COX JR., 82, of Keyport died Jan. 16 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Mr. Cox was born in Jersey City. He was a retired bookkeeper at PSE&G, Newark. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Cox was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Hester Hardhouse Cox, in 1993; a son, Warren Wise, in 1993; and a grandson, Warren Wise. He is survived by three daughters, Helen Gurliaccio, Harriet Arnold and Catherine Muldoon; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. MABEL A. GREEN MICCHELLI, 70, of Middletown died Jan. 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she lived in St. Paul, Minn., prior to moving to Middletown in 1962. Mrs. Micchelli was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by a brother, James Green. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Albert L. Micchelli of Middletown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Donald T. Micchelli of West Long Branch, and Kenneth M. and Jill Micchelli of the Belford section of Middletown; her daughter, Barbara A.
