Hook better at ‘bottom of Atlantic’ than developed

I am completely opposed to the redevelopment of Sandy Hook National Park, inclusive particularly of Fort Hancock.

I have lived in the shore area all my life; however, I came to live in the Bayshore area in the early 1980s and made a magnificent discovery — the peaceful, quite beautiful place called Sandy Hook. I have brought class trips to the park, Girl Scout overnight tours, etc., as well as my own children and their friends to this location for years to roam freely and discover something of our nation’s history.

Indeed a part of world history, Sandy Hook is one of the few remaining spots in this state that is untouched or destroyed by overdevelopment, and children are amazed by what they have discovered there. They go away feeling enlightened and wanting to learn more. My children have attended high school at the Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST), currently a pristine environment for children to learn and grow while gaining pride, knowledge, compassion for this great nation they were lucky enough to be born in. There is nothing to gain by handing over this national landmark to greedy, financially hungry developers.

I would much prefer to see it crumble to the bottom of the Atlantic — leave the place alone.
