      Jennifer Lin, a senior at Middletown High School South, recently received a $1,000 scholarship from United Teletech Federal Credit Union, Tinton Falls. Scholarships are given to high school seniors who are members in good standing of New Jersey Credit Union-affiliated credit unions. Students were judged on scholastic achievement, extracurricular and community activities.

      2nd Floor, Hazlet, recently announced the winners of its second creative arts contests. 2nd Floor is Monmouth County’s only youth help line dedicated to listening, helping and guiding youths, and is staffed by trained professionals and volunteers.

      Winners of the music lyrics and CD ROM label design contests were:

      Lyrics — first place and $50, Monica Vilacha, 14, Raritan High School, Hazlet, for “A Piece of Peace”; second place and $35, Julianne Waxman, 13, Holmdel, William R. Satz School, Holmdel, for “Peace”; and third place, $25, Kimberly Pasqualetto, 16, Hazlet, Raritan High School for “Let’s Create Peace.”

      Designs — first place, $50, for graphic designs by Kim Pasqualetto, 16, Hazlet, Raritan High School; and second place, $35, for “Global Angel” by Oleksandra Barysheva, 14, Matawan, Matawan Avenue Middle School.

      2nd Floor’s next contest, with the theme “What are great ways that show how kids from all backgrounds can get along?,” has a deadline of Aug. 31. The contest will consist of poetry/short essay or creating a poster. Entries may be mailed to: 2nd Floor Contest, 180, 1 Bethany Road, Hazlet 07730.

      Corey M. Clark, Middletown, a student at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, recently received a WithumSmith&Brown Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 as part of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants scholarship program. The fund awards high school, college and minority scholarships.

      The Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council recently presented $1,000 scholarships to four high school seniors for contributions to the arts during the students’ high school years. The recipients are:

      Courtney Allen, a graduate of Middletown High School South. Allen was editor-in-chief of South’s literary magazine, an officer in the French Honor Society and an active member of the National Honor Society;

      Andrew Brienza, a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft section of Middletown, was involved in Christian Brothers Academy’s culinary arts club, Spanish club and a community outreach program known as Project Paul.

      Margaret Fortunato, a graduate of Middletown High School North, was president of North’s choir council, secretary for the drama club, and calendar editor for the school newspaper.

      Glenn Snyder, a graduate of Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth section of Middletown, was the art editor for the school’s literary magazine, has performed major roles in spring musicals, and served as chair of the student advisory panel.

      Cheryl Laue, Lincroft section of Middletown, was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring, and her fourth consecutive semester at Monmouth University, West Long Branch. The education and history major is also a member of Phi-Eta Sigma National Honor Society, A graduate of Middletown High School South, she is the daughter of Joanne and Joseph Laue.

      Middletown resident Michael Colford has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Fairfield (Conn.) University, where he is majoring in political science. He is a graduate of Middletown High School North.

      Krystle M. Reyes, Keyport, was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Ramapo College, Mahwah. A music education major, she is also a member of the Future Educators of America at Ramapo. A graduate of Keyport High School, she is the daughter of Sharon and Joe Reyes.

      Middletown resident Lauren Therese Grobelny was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester, and the sixth consecutive semester at Monmouth University, where she is majoring in education and math. She is a member of both Kappa Delta Phi Education Honor Society and Lambda Sigma Tau Academic Honor Society. A 2002 graduate of Middletown High School North, she is the daughter of Kathleen and Paul Grobelny.

      Lincroft resident Natalie Paterson has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Conn. A broadcast journalism major, and 2003 graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel, she is the daughter of Linda and George Paterson.

      David Heefner, Middletown, was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., where he is majoring in computer science/engineering. A 2004 graduate of Middletown High School North, he also recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the son of Joan and Jeff Onori.

      Theresa Manning, Hazlet, recently made the dean’s list for the third quarter at Rochester (N.Y) Institute of Technology where she is studying in packaging science. A 2004 graduate of High Technology High School, Lincroft, she is the daughter of Ann and Edward Manning.

      Middletown resident Ryan Purtill was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Temple University, Philadelphia, where he is majoring in psychology and philosophy. A 2004 graduate of Mater Dei High School, he is the son of Anne Marie and Jim Purtill.

      Karen A. Downum, Holmdel, was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y.

      Jessica Gaeta, Ashley Maxson and Becki Bagnato, all graduates of Middletown High School North, recently received Middletown Lions Club Scholarships in the amount of $500 each. The students were selected for outstanding academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Gaeta will major in pre-law at Ramapo College of New Jersey, Mahwah, Maxson will major in secondary education at Kean University, Union, and Bagnato will attend Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, and major in music therapy and social work.
