‘Twisted writing’ by teen offends reader

For many years I’ve looked forward to my weekly Independent to get an update on our local events. In your Dec. 29 issue, I was deeply distressed to read your article on page 12 expounding on a “raunchy humor magazine” written by a Middletown teen.

I could hardly believe what I was reading. Please explain to me what is humorous about depriving diabetics their insulin or coaxing recovering alcoholics to drink again. I am not only offended as a health care professional, but as a caring resident and a compassionate human being.

I implore you to reconsider this type of “humor” next time — to say nothing of not encouraging this twisted writing. Thank you for giving this matter your time and thought.
