Center seeks volunteers for local opportunities

  • The Volunteer Center of Monmouth County, Long Branch, is seeking a youth sports supervisor for a Middletown area organization that assists children with disabilities. Volunteers are needed Saturdays from 9:30-11 a.m. and minimum age requirement is 18. For information, call Pat at (732) 225-6290.

    Participants are needed for Monmouth County beach cleanups to be held Saturday mornings beginning in April. Responsibilities include pickup and separation of trash, recording found items, and following instructions of a beach captain. Cleanups will be at area waterfronts. For more information, call Julie at (732) 872-0111. An organization that assists at-risk youths is seeking help at a bowling tournament Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Eatontown area. An Eatontown-based hospice is seeking people to assist with clerical duties, work with patients, visit patients, help with crafts, music, and pet therapy. Hours and days are flexible.     An organization that assists the homeless needs volunteers to assist residents with computers, and play board games with residents, and to mentor. Individuals are also needed to help prepare and serve meals. Drivers with valid New Jersey driver’s licenses are also needed. For more information, call Viki at (732) 544-1975. An area hospice needs volunteers to assist at a hospice office in the Tinton Falls area. Volunteers with data entry skills are in greatest demand, and hours are flexible Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Minimum age is 18. For more information, call Pauline at (732) 224-6933.

    Annual charity auction

    at Monmouth U. Feb. 8

    The student government association at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, will host its fourth annual charity auction Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. at Anacon Hall on the school’s campus.

    Items to be auctioned include retail merchandise, gift baskets, dining gift certificates, memberships, sports memorabilia and tickets to athletic events.

    Proceeds will benefit the Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Foundation (Michael’s Feat), Aberdeen. Michael’s Feat was founded by Dana and Adam Puharic in honor of their infant son Michael, who died from a chromosomal disorder 83 hours after birth.     Open house at Good News Preschool Feb. 12

    Good News Christian Preschool, 60 Maple Place, Keyport, will hold an open house Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. The school is an outreach of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. It offers half-day sessions for children age 2 1/2-3 and 4, extended day pre-K program, “Lunch Bunch” program, and “Mommy & Me” for children age 12-36 months.
