Handlin has eye on the election for Assembly I was really impressed by how quickly Freeholder Amy H. Handlin indicted every local elected official in Monmouth County. Because seven of the 11 men accused of wrongdoing are local elected officials, Amy H. Handlin wasted no time in condemning all local elected officials (800 of them) by excluding them from employment in county government — all — for the alleged misdeeds of seven local elected officials. Hooray — but why stop there? Let’s take this to its logical conclusion. Several of those arrested were “former elected officials,” so let’s ban all former elected officials from holding a county job, as well. Yes I know, protection from “guilt by association” is guaranteed to every citizen by the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of New Jersey, but what’s a couple of revered documents, when Amy, the champion of “transparent government,” is on the job. But wait, why stop there? The 11 cohorts were all either Republicans or Democrats. So, all “Rs” and “Ds” need not apply for future county jobs. And what of the “poor judgment” of the voters who put them in elected office? Do we want people like that working in our government? No way. And, weren’t six of the 11 suspects county employees? Why not fire all county employees and ban them forever from holding a county job? There — now we will surely have Handlin’s transparency in government. We’ve eliminated everyone in Monmouth County, save “honest” Amy H. Handlin, the one and only resident honest enough to work in county government. I think our sanctimonious freeholder has one eye on the election for General Assembly in November, and the other eye on the next issue of the newspaper. She should take at least one eye and focus it on being a proactive, rather than a reactive freeholder.
