Obituaries Gertrude S. Naughton Gertrude S. Naughton, 91, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died March 20 at home. Born in Bayonne, she resided in Port Monmouth since 1935. She was a retired secretary for the U.S. Government, Plexegon, Eatontown. Prior to that, she was a legal secretary at Parsons, Canzona, Blair and Warren, Red Bank. She served as the secretary of the Middletown Zoning Board from 1976-80. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Paul Naughton in 1976. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul F. and Cheryl Naughton of Vienna, Va., John A. Naughton of Port Monmouth, and Joseph and Patricia Caliendo of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Michael Dasaro of Middletown; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy will be March 23 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Anna H. Balash Smigel Mrs. Smigel, 89, of Keyport, died March 19 at Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Born in Alpha, she resided in Livingston prior to moving to Keyport. She was a former communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was a volunteer at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Smigel in 1970. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Susan Smigel of Middletown, and Chester and Lois Smigel of Hackettstown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be March 23 at 10:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Brunswick. James Francis Mangin Mr. Mangin, 62, of Middletown, died March 9 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Pittsville, Mass., he resided in Demarest, and Florida prior to moving to Middletown 27 years ago. He was employed in management at J.C. Penney Co. Inc., Woodbridge, for 20 years, retiring seven years ago. He was also a golf pro for 15 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Hope Hendricks Mangin; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jane Mangin of Cranford, and Jill and John Fardella, and Judy and Rob Hofmann, all of Wall; and five grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Church. Entombment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Jessie M. Hontz Sheehan Mrs. Sheehan, 91, of Tinton Falls, died March 8 at Chelsea Assisted Living, Tinton Falls. Born in Lehighton, Pa., she resided in the Bronx, N.Y., Lehighton, and Plainfield prior to moving to Tinton Falls two years ago. She was employed in the clerical and bookkeeping area at Lever Brothers and Sears, New York City, for 40 years, retiring in 1972. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Sheehan in 1962; three sisters; one brother; and a son, Joseph Sheehan in 1993. She is survived by two daughters, Anne Dunn of Aberdeen, and Susan Denogean of Tucson; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Douglas Clark James Williamson Mr. Williamson, 39, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died March 14 at home following a short illness. Born in Kearny, he relocated to Middletown in 1974, and to Lincroft 11 years ago. He owned and operated Mother Earth Landscaping Inc., Lincroft, the past 15 years. He enjoyed boating and fishing, and was an environmental advocate. He was a supporter of Jason’s Dreams for Kids, Red Bank. He was predeceased by his father, Clark Williamson; and a brother, Christopher Williamson. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Kristina Johnson Williamson of Lincroft; a son, James Patrick Williamson of Lincroft; a daughter, Devon Kristina Williamson of Lincroft; his mother, Vida Williamson of Neptune; his paternal grandmother, Constance Williamson; a sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer Williamson Sullivan and Michael Sullivan of Tinton Falls; two brothers-in-law and their wives; a sister-in-law and her husband; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was held at ST. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. Arrangements are by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Marjorie Rose Taft Hansen Mrs. Hansen, 80, of Red Bank, died March 8 at Kensington Manor Nursing Home, Toms River. Born in Kearny, she resided in Red Bank 45 years. She was a telephone operator at NJ Bell for 17 years, retiring in 1974. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Harold Hansen in January; and a brother, George Taft. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Joseph Garvey of Toms River, Deborah Ferrogine of Tinton Falls, and Kristen and Michael Collat of Misawa Air Force Base, Japan; a sister, Elizabeth A. Sheridan of Keyport; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Hollywood Mrs. Hollywood, 94, of Red Bank, died March 14 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had been a resident of Red Bank since 1948. Mrs. Hollywood was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was a secretary in New York City. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a past president of the St. James School PTA. Mrs. Hollywood was predeceased by her husband, George A. Hollywood, in 1983; a son, Andrew J. Hollywood; three sisters, Sister M. Martina, S.S.J., Catherine Chamberlin and Ann Young; and a brother, John Cogavin. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Maryalice Hollywood of Little Silver; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and William Oakerson of Middletown; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Church. Interment was at Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Shrewsbury. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence C. Orrok Sr. Mr. Orrok, 70, of Aberdeen, died March 14 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Bricktown prior to moving to Aberdeen in 1974. He was a retired electrician at IBEW, Local No. 400, Brielle. He is survived by his wife, Janet Murphy Orrok of Aberdeen; four sons, Lawrence Orrok Jr. of Bricktown, John Rossi of Long Pond, Pa., and Lawrence Rossi and Paul Rossi, both of Matawan; two daughters, Lori Orrok of Beachwood, and Annmarie Bucchino of South Mills, N.C.; a sister, Claire Pender of Point Pleasant; and 11 grandchildren. Dorothy I. Davino Mrs. Davino, 71, of Matawan, died March 15 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She had been a resident of Matawan for the past 50 years. Mrs. Davino was a chemical processor at Bendix, Red Bank. She was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. She was predeceased by her husband, Carmen A. Davino, in 1993. Mrs. Davino is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Joann Davino of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and David Murray of Matawan; and two grandsons. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Clement’s Church, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Sandy Spiegel Mrs. Spiegel, 88, of Red Bank, died March 15 at home. Born in New York City, she resided in Middletown prior to moving to Red Bank three years ago. She was a retired purchasing agent for the city of New York. She was predeceased by her husband of 10 years, Monroe Spiegel in 1974; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Sheridan of Red Bank; a sister, Mary Virgilio; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at ST. Mary Caputo Mrs. Caputo, 85, of Aberdeen, died March 16 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she resided in Toms River before moving to Aberdeen. Mrs. Caputo was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Caputo, in 1997; a son-in-law, John McArdle; a sister, Katherine DeStaven; and a grandson, Toby Miele. Mrs. Caputo is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Gloria McArdle, and Louise and Joseph Grimaldi, all of Aberdeen, and Clare Caputo of Roseland; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport., with interment at the church’s cemetery. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
George A Deitz Mr. Deitz, 73, of Hobe Sound, Fla., died March 16 at Manors Nursing Home, Hobe Sound, due to complications from pulmonary disease. He resided in Matawan before moving to Heritage Ridge, Hobe Sound, 16 years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Deitz had been a teacher, coach and athletic director at Matawan High School, where he compiled an outstanding winning record in baseball in Monmouth County’s Shore Conference. He served with the U.S. Military during the Korean War and received two Purple Heart medals for being wounded in action. Mr. Deitz is survived by his wife, Margaret; four sons, Dr. Michael Deitz of Forked River, George Deitz Jr. of Tinton Falls, Terrence Deitz of Simsbury, Conn., and Thomas Deitz of San Diego; a daughter, Margaret Shea of Rockville, Conn.; two brothers, William Deitz of Hobe Sound and Hal Deitz of Owassa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial Mass will be celebrated April 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Roman Catholic Church, Hobe Sound.
Louise A. Baer Mrs. Baer, 85, of Matawan, died March 17 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Bayonne, she resided there before moving to Matawan in 1947. Mrs. Baer was a homemaker. She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry H. Baer, in 1996; and a daughter, Susan L. Baer, in 1999. Mrs. Baer is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Robert Baer-Arter of Grand Terrace, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric R. and Kim Baer of the Wickatunk section of Marlboro; a sister, Vera J. Best of Matawan; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Gethsemane Church, followed by interment at Franklin Memorial Park Cemetery, North Brunswick.
