CBA has new principal

MIDDLETOWN — Following a 14-year run as principal, Brother Ralph Montedoro left his post as Christian Brothers Academy principal effective July 1.

Montedoro, who had been at CBA since 1983, taught Spanish and held the titles of Director of Campus Ministry and Associate Principal of Student Affairs before becoming principal in 1991.

Montedoro’s replacement, Brother Stephen Olert, will be the sixth principal in the history of the school. A brother for nearly 50 years, Olert was serving as the associate provincial of the New York District of the Christian Brothers, a position he held since 2002. Olert also has prior experience as a principal, having held the position at Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington from 1987-99.

Olert also served as the principal at the Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, N.Y., from 1976-79.

Aside from his administrative experience, he has also taught foreign language and religion classes, and was a guidance counselor and spiritual director in schools in New York, New Jersey and Michigan. He has a bachelor’s degree in French literature from the Catholic University of America and a master’s degree in counseling from Syracuse University.

This is not the first go-round at the Lincroft school for Olert. From 1981-87 he held the position of director of formation for the province. From 1999-02, he served as director of De La Salle Hall. The academy, an all-male college preparatory school, opened in 1959.

Montedoro is on a sabbatical and will spend the upcoming year studying and visiting with Christian groups before he receives a new assignment next year.
