Community Bulletin Board Keyport VFW 4247 to hold breakfast Jan. 15

MUMC’s ‘40 Days’
programs begin Jan. 15
Middletown United Methodist Church (MUMC) will take part in “40 Days of Community” Jan. 15-Feb. 26 with worship services, group activities, and various programs. “40 Days” is a spiritual growth concept from the book “The Purpose-Drive Life” by Rick Warren. Center announces blood drives slated for January
Central Jersey Blood Center, Shrewsbury, has announced the following local blood drives:
• Jan. 12 from 6-9 p.m. at Bayview Elementary School, 300 Leonardville Road, Belford section of Middletown
• Jan. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Masonic Lodge, First United Methodist Church, Atlantic Avenue and Church Street, Matawan
• Jan. 19 from 5-9 p.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 250 Harmony Road, Middletown.
The donation process takes about an hour. Donors must also complete a medical history interview and have a mini-physical (temperature, iron, pulse and blood pressure screening). Interested donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors must present signature ID at time of registration.

Brush & Palette Art Guild to meet Jan. 17
The Brush & Palette Art Guild will hold a business meeting Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at Cullen Center, 1776 Union Ave., Hazlet. The public is welcome to attend.
The guild is celebrating its 20th anniversary during 2006, and has created a Web site www.brushandpalette.org. The site features the guild’s schedule and other information. The group meets Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. at Cullen Center, and the second Tuesday at Keyport Senior Center.

‘Open door’ sessions
at college Jan. 11 and 12
Brookdale Community College will host two “open door” information sessions for prospective new and returning students Jan. 11 from 5-7 p.m., and Jan. 12 session from noon to 2 p.m.
Sessions will be held in the recruitment services offices in the former MAN building, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. The spring semester begins Jan. 18.

Holmdel Half Century Club to meet Jan. 17
The Holmdel Half Century Club will hold its next meeting Jan. 17 at noon at the Holmdel Senior Center, Crawfords Corner Road.
A trip to the Tropicana Casino, Atlantic City, will be Jan. 18 departing the senior center at 10 a.m. Cost is $40 which includes $20 coin back, the show “Ice Fusion,” and a buffet coupon. Ladies’ “Mystery Night Out” for members only will be Jan. 31 and depart the senior center at 4 p.m. Cost is $20, which covers four courses.
A trip to “A Dancer’s Life” starring Chita Rivera in New York City will be Feb. 24 and depart the center at 4 p.m. Cost is $117 for bus transportation, ticket and dinner.
A trip to “The Odd Couple” with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick will be March 10 (waiting list only). Cost is $157 for transportation, orchestra seats to the evening performance, and dinner.

Participants now sought for Middletown job fair
The township of Middletown is now accepting applications from employers interested in taking part in its “Youth Job Fair 2006.” The event will be April 5 from 7:30-9 p.m. at High School North, 33 Tindall Road.
The event organized by the Middletown Community Affairs Council brings together Middletown youth and employers to explore the possibility of full-time and part-time job placement at no cost to the student or the employers.

Indoor winter picnic
at senior center Jan. 12
The Middletown Senior Center will hold an indoor winter picnic Jan. 12 from noon-2:30 p.m. The center is at Croydon Hall, Leonardville Road, Leonardo section of Middletown.
The picnic will feature a hot buffet, picnic games, and door prices. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance at the senior center. The monthly birthday party will be Jan. 19 from 1-2:30 p.m. The party features a horse-racing game with members taking the place of the horses. Refreshments will be served. “Just Desserts” will be Jan. 26 from 1-2:30 p.m. Participants must register in advance and bring a dessert to share with four to six people. Coffee and tea are provided.
The senior center welcome residents 60 and older to become a member, with membership free of charge. The center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Transportation is available to registered members by reservation. For more information, call (732) 615-2265.
