Middletown parents have county New Year’s baby
BY KAREN E. BOWES
Staff Writer

Proud parents Scott and Laureen Millevoi of Middletown welcomed son Dylan Scott into the world on Jan. 1 at 12:14 a.m., making him the first baby born in the county this year.
MIDDLETOWN — The first birth of the New Year is tangled up in baby blue.

Dylan Scott, the infant son of Middletown residents Laureen and Scott Millevoi, was born Jan. 1 at 12:14 a.m., making him the first baby born in Monmouth County this year.

Delivered at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, after 18 hours of labor, the 7-pound, 4-ounce boy is the first child for the couple.

“It went well,” the father said. “He was on the fence of being the first baby of 2006 or the last baby of 2005.”

The couple arrived at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. with the expectant mother already in labor.

“She was in labor all day,” said Scott Millevoi. “She really started hard labor at around 11:35 at night. He was born 45 minutes later. ... It was quite a long time.”

The family received a special gift for having the first baby in the county: a gift basket compliments of Babies “R” Us

and a visit from representatives of the company as part of the chain’s First Baby of the Year Sweepstakes.

“We’re doing great,” the new mom said on Monday afternoon. “We went to the doctor’s today, and Dylan gained a pound.”

Coincidentally, both Laureen and Scott were also born at the hospital, and the baby’s grandmother, Carolyn Millevoi, has worked there for 34 years.

The couple did not want to know the gender of the baby until he was born.

“We wanted it to be a surprise,” Scott Millevoi. “So few things in life are really a surprise. So we decided, let’s just leave this one alone.”

The mother is a special education teacher at the Harmony School, Middletown. She teaches fourth and fifth grade, and plans to return to work in the fall. She and her husband are enjoying parenting.

“He’s a sleeper, so dad’s very happy,” said Scott Millevoi, a business analyst at City Group in Manhattan.

“I took a week of vacation, and right now I’m working from home,” he said, adding he plans to return to the office this week.

Parents noted Dr. Robert Farber and nurse Karen Gerstenmeier delivered the baby.
