Greater Media Newspapers to feature Future Leaders

In the week of May 31, Greater Media Newspapers, which publishes the Independent, will present a very special section honoring and showcasing young people from our circulation areas.

The Future Leaders section will focus on youthful leaders from all walks of life, not just on the brightest scholars.

We will feature young people who excel in the arts, Scouts, volunteer organizations, community groups, theater, athletics and any other field where young people make positive strides and achievements.

In this edition of the Independent and editions throughout the month, you will find a nomination form inviting readers to nominate young people to be profiled in the Future Leaders section with a story and photo. We are looking for young people between the ages of 16 and 21 who will not only become society's leaders tomorrow, but who are worthy of recognition now.

The nomination forms will run in several editions of the paper during the month of March, and we will begin selecting young people to be profiled as the forms come in. The deadline for nomination forms is April 7 at 5 p.m., but we encourage you to get them in early. The advertising sales deadline for the special section is Wednesday, May 10, at 5 p.m., and the sections will be published in all Greater Media newspapers the last week of May.

Gregory Bean, executive editor of Greater Media Newspapers, said that both the editorial and advertising staffs of the publications are excited about the new section.

"We often read about the top scholars and athletes in our schools, but this gives us a real opportunity to introduce our readers to a much broader spectrum of the youth community," he said.

"We always hear that there's not enough 'good news' in the papers, but showcasing the lives and activities of so many fine young people is about as good as good news gets. We hope to make this an annual special section, but its success depends upon our readers filling out the nomination forms and sending them in. The more readers who become involved, the better the final section will be," Bean said.

To nominate a Future Leader, simply fill out the nomination form printed in the newspaper and mail the completed form to Susan Greitz, Promotions and Marketing Coordi-nator, Greater Media Newspapers, P.O. Box 5001, Freehold, NJ 07728.
