Obituaries Edward Jay Allen Mr. Allen, 86, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died March 5 at Meridian Hospice, Red Bank. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided in Middletown before moving to Lincroft in 2000. Mr. Allen was employed at the General Post Office in New York City, retiring in 1972. He was also a self-employed carpenter. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alva Mingins Allen; two daughters and one son-in-law, Peggy Bennett-Wise of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, and Barbara and Ralph Cucinelli of Lincroft; a son, Robert Edward Allen of Somerset; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert "Buddy" and Mary Jo Allen of Sanford, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral service will be held March 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
Edna Hanley Strachan Jakubecy Mrs. Jakubecy, 91, of Middletown, died Feb. 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She resided in Little Silver, prior to moving to Middletown two years ago. She was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was an avid sportswoman, winning the North American Speed Skating Championships two times, the Silver Skates Competition in New York City, and inductee in the New York City Sports Hall of Fame. She also won several regional championships in swimming and high diving. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Red Bank Elks Lodge No. 233. She was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Strachan in 1967. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Emil L.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Sura Strachan of Holmdel, Jim and Brenda Jakubecy of Charlotte, N.C., and Dick and Susan Jakubecy of Dunwoody, Ga.; a daughter, Susan Palmer of Lakewood; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at St. James Church. Entombment was at Fair View Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Mary Jane Esser Mrs. Esser, 60, of Middletown, died Feb. 27 at home, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Framingham, Mass., she had been a resident of Middletown for the past 30 years. Mrs. Esser was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was a former president of St. James School PTO, a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, and a foster care mother for newborns for Catholic Charities. She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Pampel Williams; and a brother, David Williams. Mrs. Esser is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ronald D. Esser; her father, Gordon Williams; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Christopher and Laura Esser, and Matthew and Lisa Esser, all of Middletown, and Steven Esser of Portland, Ore.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gretchen and Joel Hughes, and Juli and Dwayne Primeaux, all of Youngsville, La.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Richard Williams of El Paso, and Brian and Jane Williams of New Canaan, Conn.; her mother-in-law, Geraldine Esser of Daytona Beach; and four grandchildren. Kristi Noel "Dubo" DuBrosky Miss DuBrosky, 26, of Middletown, died Feb. 28 in Holmdel. She was born in Long Branch. Miss DuBrosky was a nurse at the Laurel Bay Rehabilitation Center, Keansburg. Prior to that, she was a nurse at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was a graduate of Middletown High School North; Kean University, Union; and the Monmouth County Nursing program. She was a member and past president of Sigma Beta Chi. She enjoyed sports. Miss DuBrosky was predeceased by her father, Donald DuBrosky, in 2003. She is survived by her mother, Jeanne Barrett DuBrosky of Middletown and Allentown; a brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Wenona DuBrosky of Allentown; three nieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown, followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by the John F. Mary Sucholdolsky Hutnik Mrs. Hutnik, 91, of Keyport, died Feb. 28 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Starr Junction, Pa., she resided in Pennsylvania, New York and Matawan before moving to Keyport in 1990. Before her retirement, Mrs. Hutnik was a waitress and was employed in various domestic jobs in New York City. She was a communicant of Jesus the Lord Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Hutnik, in 1978; four sisters, Anna, Mildred and Anna Sucholdolsky, and Helen Oleksak; a brother, Michael Sucholdolsky; a son-in-law, Eugene Hall; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Hutnik. Mrs. Hutnik is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Gifford Bowne of Hazlet; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward Hutnik of Hazlet, and Joseph and Celia Hutnik of Ridgewood; three sisters, Susan Hamilton of Brooklyn, N.Y., Margaret Caleca of Gilbert, Pa., and Jean Pacanovsky of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Loretta A. Seguine Mrs. Seguine, 88, of Middletown, died Feb. 28 at home. Born in Newark, she relocated to Middletown 50 years ago. Before her retirement, Mrs. Seguine was an employee of RCA, Prudential and Grand Union. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Seguine Sr.; a son, Neil T. Seguine; and a great-grandson, Justin F. Benson. Mrs. Seguine is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cheryl Seguine Jr. of St. Augustine, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Frank Benson of Toms River, and Gayle and Edward Sheehan of Middletown; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mildred and Gus Browns, and Agnitta Reich; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lucy Vitrano Livoti Mrs. Livoti, 100, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Feb. 11 at home. Her husband, Philip, died in 1953, and a son, John, died in January. Surviving are a son, Joseph Livoti of Parlin; three daughters, Josephine Patalano and Christine Sollecito, both of Parlin, and Millie Sollecito of Holmdel; a daughter-in-law, Prudence Livoti of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery, Queens, N.Y. James F. Adams Sr. James F. Adams Sr., 88, of Holmdel, died March 1 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Staten Island, N.Y., Middletown, and Hazlet, before moving to Holmdel. Mr. Adams was a principal foreman at the New York City Housing Authority for 28 years, retiring in 1977. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and a member of the Vince Lombardi Council Knights of Columbus, Middletown. Mr. Adams was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie Adams, in 1996; and a son, James F. Adams Jr. He is survived by three grandsons. Frank Christian Mr. Christian, 87, of Middletown, died March 1 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Hoboken, he resided in the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen and in Keansburg before moving to Middletown 20 years ago. Mr. Christian was a mechanic at National Lead Corp., Sayreville, for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown, where he served as an usher. He was a retired captain of the Keansburg First Aid Squad, a chaplain for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and a member of the Order of the Cootie. Mr. Christian is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Larsen Christian; two sons, Frank Christian of Hazlet and Edward Christian of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; a daughter, Carolyn Hulak of Middletown; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Robert H. Holmes Mr. Holmes, 45, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died March 1 at home. Born in South Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of Sayreville. Mr. Holmes was a boilermaker at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, for the past 25 years. He was a member of Boilermakers Local Union No. 68 and Old Bridge Moose Lodge No. 485. He was a coach for Sayreville Little League and also coached hockey. Mr. Holmes was predeceased by his father, Robert W. Holmes. He is survived by three sons, James, Robert and Raymond, all at home; his mother, Lorraine Glover Holmes; three sisters, Sharon O'Hare of Marlboro, MaryBeth Woolf of Cliffwood Beach, and Barbara Waldron of Lakewood; a brother, Thomas Holmes of Holmdel; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy, followed by burial at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge. The Carmen F. Jean E. Wild O'Hara Mrs. O'Hara, 87, of Keyport, died March 1 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Bayonne before moving to Keyport in 1971. Mrs. O'Hara was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was a past state president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Association of Letter Carriers and Local Auxiliary No. 404, Jersey City; and a member of Chapter No. 1533 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was predeceased by her husband, John T. O'Hara Sr., in 1984; and two brothers, Frank McGurr and Jack McGurr. Mrs. O'Hara is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Wild of Hazlet; two stepsons, John O'Hara Jr. of North Carolina and Frank O'Hara of Florida; nine step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Schroeck Mr. Schroeck, 78, of Middletown, died March 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Newark, prior to moving to Middletown 43 years ago. He was a pipe fitter at General Motors, New Brunswick. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion No. 408, Newark. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Drenkowski Schroeck; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Henry and Louise Schroeck Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla., and Frank Schroeck of Middletown; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda and Al Mardrus of Netcong, Cheryl and William Armstrong of the Belford section of Middletown, Susan and John Armstrong of Middletown, Darlene Schroeck of Neptune, Ardelle and Michael Prillwitz of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and Marie Nempsey of Middletown; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Mark Feeley Sr. Mr. Feeley, 78, of Monroe, formerly of Old Bridge, died Feb. 17 in Applegarth Care Center, Monroe. His wife, Bernice Hartmann Feeley, died in 1998. Surviving are three sons, Mark Feeley Jr. of Brielle, Kevin Feeley of Bernardsville and Kenneth Feeley of South Amboy; a daughter, Kathleen Seewald of Middletown; and four grandchildren. Vincent Stasi Mr. Stasi, 81, of Old Bridge, died Feb. 28 at home. Born in Durazzano, Italy, he immigrated to the United States in 1952, residing in South River before moving to Old Bridge in 1967. Mr. Stasi owned a nursery and retail garden center, retiring in 1999. Prior to that, he was employed at Delco Battery and at Hercules Powder Co. During World War II, he served with the Carbinieri, the Italian Mounted Police, and was taken prisoner by the German army and labored at a munitions depot until being freed after the war. He was a founding member of the South River Chapter of the Italian-American Association. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rosa, Pietro, Antonio and Marco. Mr. Stasi is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosa Iadevaia Stasi; three sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent Jr. and Graciela Stasi of New York City, Michael and Deborah Stasi of Red Bank, and Joseph and Diane Stasi of Cranbury; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lucia and Daniel Moran, and Rosemarie Stasi, all of Old Bridge, and Christine and Marc Dostie of Red Bank; five brothers, Raffaele, Carmine, Severino and Stefano, all of Italy, and Luciano of Matawan; and 11 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, South River, followed by interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Therese "Terry" Humenn Mrs. Humenn, 70, of Old Bridge, died Feb. 23 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. She was the former owner of Gifts and Smiles, Fair Haven and Matawan. She worked as assistant coordinator of arts and crafts at Pine Brook Nursing Home, Englishtown. Surviving are her former husband, Richard F. Humenn of the Whiting section of Manchester; a son, Polar Humenn of Syracuse, N.Y.; two daughters, Susie T. Craig of Point Pleasant and Regina A. Traficante of Brunswick, Ga.; and four grandchildren. A service was held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
