Obituaries Douglas C. "Doug" Donohoe Mr. Donohoe, 70, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died June 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Cisco, Texas, he had been a resident of New Monmouth since 1962. Mr. Donohoe was a technical support person at Bell Labs, Holmdel, for more than 34 years, retiring in 1990. He was the founder and past president of the Bell Labs Credit Union and a former member of the Middletown Jaycees. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Catherine Marsala and Emma Lee Miller; and two brothers, Bill and Leonard Donohoe. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marion Manfre Donohoe; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Tina Donohoe of Union Beach, and Michael and Kimberly Donohoe of Easton, Pa.; a brother, Robert Donohoe of Albuquerque, N.M.; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be held June 7 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral service will be held June 8 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
Richard J. Rankin Mr. Rankin, 72, of Keansburg, died June 4 at home. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a boilermaker for Local 28, Bayonne. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Rankin was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Miller Rankin, in 2005. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Adrianne and Chuck Bolin of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Joseph Bellini of Horsham, Pa., and Bill and Lorraine Bellini of Middletown; a sister, Jeanne Morrison of Casa Grande, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held June 7, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral service will be held June 8 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet.
Brian E. "Mac" McCaffrey Mr. McCaffrey, 65, of Old Bridge, died May 29 at home. Born in New York City, he resided in Middletown and Red Bank before moving to Old Bridge more than two years ago. Before his retirement this year, Mr. McCaffrey was a soap technician at International Flavors and Fragrances, Union Beach, for 26 years. Prior to that, he was employed at National Lead, Sayreville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He played softball for Middletown, Red Bank and Triboro softball leagues. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Belle Conway. Mr. McCaffrey is survived by his wife, Doreen Sullivan McCaffrey; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lance and Kristin McCaffrey of Malaga, Gloucester County, and Scott McCaffrey of Cape May; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Bill McMahon of Brick; two brothers, Rob Graham of Asbury Park and Joe Graham, serving with the U.S. Marines in Iraq; and five grandchildren. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
George J. Betz Mr. Betz, 85, of Shrewsbury, died May 31 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Wayne and Toms River for 20 years before moving to Shrewsbury. Before his retirement in 1986, Mr. Betz was a purchasing manager at the Great A&P Tea Co., Montvale, for 44 years. He served with the U.S. Army Medical Administrative Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Toms River. Mr. Betz is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ryan Betz; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Eileen Betz of Middletown, and Richard and JoAnn Betz of Fairport Harbor, Ohio; a sister, Ann Elliott of Old Bridge; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, followed by entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park Cemetery, Toms River. The John F. Box 4777, New York City, NY 10163. Donald L. Rechtenbaugh Mr. Rechtenbaugh, 67, of Freehold Township, died June 1 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born and raised in Canistota, S.D., he settled in Freehold Township in 1965. He was a systems engineer at AT&T, Bell Labs, Holmdel, for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Mr. Rechtenbaugh was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, where he served on the Building and Maintenance Committee, participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program, and taught in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Boy Scout leader in Freehold Township and was a former president of the Homeowners Association in Longview, Freehold Township. Mr. Rechtenbaugh was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, James and George Rechtenbaugh. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Evelyn; three sons, Don Lee Rechtenbaugh of Freehold, Dominic Rechtenbaugh of Toms River, and Glenn Rechtenbaugh of Middlesex; three daughters, Diane Dragone of Lincroft, Linda Landis of Highland Park, and Lori Guerrero of Farmingdale; a brother, Herb Rechtenbaugh of Hartford, S.D.; a sister, Margaret Huber of Marion, S.D.; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by burial at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Marlboro. Dorothy M. Arnold Mrs. Arnold, 82, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, died June 1 at home. Born in Jersey City, she resided in the Port Monmouth and Leonardo section of Middletown before moving to West Keansburg in 2001. Mrs. Arnold was a snack bar clerk at Two Guys, Middletown, for six years, retiring in 1972. She was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown; and a member of Bayshore Senior Citizens, Middletown, and the Companions of the Forest of America. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick Conner Jr., in 1979; her second husband, Edward Arnold, in 2001; a son, Frederick Conner III in 2000; and a grandson, Frederick Conner IV. Mrs. Arnold is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen M. and Paul Flannigan of West Keansburg, with whom she resided, and Karen Lee and Richard Milko Jr. of Leonardo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. William F. Dempsey Mr. Dempsey, 91, of Toms River, died June 4 at Kensington Manor, Toms River. Born in New York City, he resided in Jersey City and Keyport, prior to moving to Toms River five years ago. He was a retired maintenance worker at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at Newark International Airport. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Largey-Nugent Dempsey; a son, Michael Nugent of Toms River; a daughter, Patricia Acampora of Keyport; two sisters, Margaret Chirelli of Jackson, and Helen Walenta of Marlboro; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
George Duckers Mr. Duckers, 82, of Manchester, died June 1 at Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Middletown before moving to Manchester 15 years ago. Before his retirement, Mr. Duckers was a locomotive engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he was employed 28 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Vince Lombardi Council. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris, in 1973; a son, Gregory, in 1975; and a stepdaughter, Betsy Gasper, in 1994. Mr. Duckers is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Duckers; three sons, George, Jeff and Keith; three daughters, Gail, Doreen and Denise; three stepdaughters, Mary, Maureen and Amy; a stepson, Stephen; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Christian P. Leptich Mr. Leptich, 55, of Middletown, died June 4 at home. He was born in Flushing, N.Y. He was a welder at Berweiler and Sons, Eatontown. He was predeceased by his father, Peter Leptich in 2001; and his mother, Margaret Ehr Leptich May 30. He is survived by a two brothers and one sister-in-law, Pete and Joanne Leptich of Long Island, N.Y., and Richard Leptich of Highlands; three nieces; and three great-nephews. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Lorraine Dugan Humes Mrs. Humes, 71, of Monroe, died May 28 at home. Surviving are her husband, Harry Humes; two sons, Burt Neues of Monroe and William Neues of Englishtown; three daughters, Christine Noone of Branchburg, Dawn Riggs of Aberdeen and Peggy Hollanbach of Middleberg, Pa.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
