Residents should vote for dedicated tax for memorial

So who needs a local veterans memorial? We do. It is easy to forget the wars and those who fought and died. Hanging the flag on Memorial Day is clean, distant, and "patriotic." So it is easy to forget the blood, sweat and tears.

All of us need to remember with a memorial - a granite plaque with their names etched in remembrance of their efforts, not only for present but also for future generations. Veterans spilled their blood so we can be free to hang out our flag.

Do the residents of Holmdel need to vote for a dedicated tax for the memorial?

I agree with Committeeman Terence Wall that it is offensive to wait for a ballot dedicating the $150,000. Holmdel residents can urge the Township Committee to find the funds in the present assets. The township can then proceed with the approved memorial plan project. If additional funds in the future were necessary, Holmdel residents would surely and proudly make contributions to this memorial fund.

I raised $2,000 in memory of my husband, who was wounded in Korea. How much will you raise?

Veterans are getting older, sicker, and sadder. Unfortunately, a current list of new additions in now available.

There is no time to waste.
