Brookdale instant admit day slated for Aug. 24

Brookdale Community College's Bayshore Higher Education Center, 311 Laurel Ave., West Keansburg section of Hazlet, will hold an instant admissions and express registration day Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The services will enable students to apply, be tested if necessary and see a counselor. Testing will start at 5 p.m.

Registration under way for adult diploma program

The Educational Services Commission/Monmouth Adult Education Commission (ESC/MAECOM) Adult High School, 100 Tornillo Way, Tinton Falls, is now holding registration for its free adult high school diploma program that offers students a locally issued diploma following completion of requirements.

Students enrolling in the program during September will receive $50 credit toward any fall-term MAECOM course, which include computer training, foreign languages, and woodworking. Classes are held day and evening, year-round.

Holmdel CILU to screen 'Bears' film Aug. 28

Citizens for Informed Land Use (CILU), Holmdel, will welcome Tom Phillips, Holmdel, director and producer of "Bears Too Close for Comfort" Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. The free screening will be held at the Holmdel Senior/Community Center, Crawfords Corner Road.

Phillips will introduce the film and take questions following the film. "Bears" focuses on the influx of bears into suburban New Jersey neighborhoods. It was aired nationally on the Outdoor Channel and local PBS stations, and won six Telly awards and two International Omni awards. The half-hour screening will include segments never before aired on television, including an interview with a university professor about how the study of bears can help with human ailments such as osteoporosis.

The event is free, and refreshments will be served.

Benefit polo match,

tailgate party Sept. 10

The Amanda's Easel art therapy program of 180 Turning Lives Around Inc., Hazlet, will present a polo match and tailgate party Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at Bucks Mill Park, Bucks Mill Road, Colts Neck.

Tailgate and picnic space on the field is priced $100 per vehicle, and tailgate setup on the day of the event is no later than 1:30 p.m. Off-field parking is a $10-per-person donation. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the match. Proceeds benefit the art therapy program designed to create a support system to help both children and nonoffending parents. Middletown Ramblers barn dance Aug. 25

Middletown Ramblers will host a barn dance 7:30-10 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Croydon Hall Senior Center, 900 Leonardville Road, Leonardo section of Middletown.

Couples and singles are welcome, and no dancing experience is needed. Children must be accompanied by a parent. Refreshments will be provided. Rockit! for Kids concert at high school Aug. 26

Middletown Township Cultural & Arts Council will present a free concert by students age 8-16 Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at Middletown North High School, Tindall Road.

The group is part of the nonprofit Rockit! for Kids that provides school-age children the opportunity to perform live on stage in a band setting. The children will be performing rock classics and current Billboard tunes.

Register for ministry event by Sept. 6

The Ministry of Catholic Women of Zion, Middletown, will hold its monthly lunch and Mass Sept. 9, with advance registration due by Sept. 6. The event will be at Holiday Inn, 700 Hope Road, Tinton Falls, with Mass at 10 a.m., followed by lunch.

Cat, dog rabies clinics slated in Middletown

The Middletown Health Department will conduct a rabies clinic for cats Sept. 9 from 9-11 a.m., and for dogs Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Both clinics are free and will be at the overflow parking lot at town hall at Kings Highway and Penelope Lane. All animals must be under the owner's control on a leash or in a pet carrier. Vendors sought for local church's yard sale

Lincroft Presbyterian Church, West Front Street, Lincroft section of Middletown, is seeking vendors for its yard sale set for Oct. 7 (rain date Oct. 14).

Re-election campaign fundraiser Oct. 7

The Friends of Larry Fink will hold a fundraiser for his re-election campaign Oct. 7 at the former Holmdel residence of Bruce Springsteen. Hosting the event will be the owners of the property, Colleen and Bob Haney. Suggested contribution is $75.

Local girls aid Scouts in hurricane affected areas

Junior Girl Scout Troops 85 and 389, Hazlet, have completed the Bronze Award by helping victims in the Mississippi and Louisiana areas. The girls collected donations of supplies needed to complete Brownie try-its, and put together "try-it" kits to ship to Girl Scout troops in the affected area.

The girls helped more than 300 brownie Girl Scouts to earn over 550 try-its. The girls raised money for shipping by selling cookies. The Scout troops wish to thank the local businesses for generous support as well as the Hazlet Service Unit and its troops for their donations and support.
