Register for Hazlet Rec. fitness classes by Sept. 22

Hazlet Recreation Commission is sponsoring 12 lessons of cardio-kickboxing classes for adults Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. beginning Sept. 25. Registration is due by Sept. 22. Cost is $50.

Karate classes for children age 4-12 will begin Sept. 23 from 9-11 a.m. The five lessons will be at Amato's Studio, Palmer Avenue, Hazlet. Cost is $35.

Body conditioning for adults will be offered for six weeks Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15-10:15 a.m. beginning Sept. 26. Cost is $50.

Gymnastics for girls and boys will be offered for 16 lessons beginning Sept. 27. Cost is $57. The program will be at Cove Road School, Hazlet. One-hour lessons will be given Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:40 p.m. for children age 6-8, 6:50 p.m. for girls age 6-8, and 8 p.m. for girls age 9-14.

A Latin dance program for adults will be offered for 10 Thursdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 5. Cost is $50.

Beginner cardio-kickboxing for adults will be offered Saturdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m. beginning Oct. 14. Cost is $50. Needed are a mat/towel and water bottle.

Sanctus Real to highlight church's festivities

New Monmouth Baptist Church, 4 Cherry Tree Farm Road, Middletown, will hold Pioneer Clubs for children age 4 through grade five Sept. 13 from 6:45-8:15 p.m., and meet each Wednesday night.

The church's "September Smash Concert" featuring Sanctus Real will be Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. The group is a Dove Award winner. All youth and families are invited to attend, and tickets may be purchased at Itickets.com or the church.

Reservations due Sept. 15 for Atlantic City trip

St. Mary's Travel Group, New Monmouth section of Middletown, is sponsoring a trip to see "The Price is Right" show Claridge Casino, Atlantic City, Sept. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Reservations must be prepaid by Sept. 15.

LVGA to debut new bocce court Sept. 16

The Lincroft Village Green Association (LVGA) will debut its new bocce court with tournament play Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Village Green.

Residents of all ages are invited to take part, and there will also be complimentary food and drinks. Prizes will be awarded to tournament winners. Entry fee is $5 per person for individuals age 12 and older, and free for children younger than age 11. Free instruction will be offered during the event.

VFW to hold candlelight service Sept. 15

POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony Sept. 15

The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation will hold its annual POW/MIA Recognition and Gold Star Mothers Recognition Day ceremony Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, Holmdel.

The event is in celebration of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, the third Friday in September, during which ceremonies are held nationwide. Guest speakers will be William S. Blaher, Flemington, and Barry Rosenzweig, Freehold. Admission is free.

Blaher was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, and sent to Germany in 1944. He served in the Battle of the Bulge, during which he was taken Prisoner of War from December 1944 through April 1945. Following his military service, he established a photography studio in Flemington.

Rosenzweig received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1964 and served on active duty from September, 1966 to September 1968, with the U.S. Army Field Band in Washington, D.C. Following his military duty, he spent 40 years in the field of education primarily with Jackson Township School District. He and other Vietnam War veterans and The Veterans Coalition Post No. 3 developed the "Dear POW/MIA" program used nationwide to teach students about the POW/MIA issue.

NJMSC's On Sandy Shores Sept. 16 and 30

The New Jersey Marine Science Consortium's (NJMSC) Families Investigate Science Hands-On (F.I.S.H.) program will offer "On Sandy Shores" for families and children Sept. 16 at 11 a.m., and Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at its location at Fort Hancock, Sandy Hook.

The specialized programs are suitable for children in grades K-12, and offer participants hands-on experience with equipment such as seine nets and microscopes, and to investigate sand, shells, crabs and fish and other species.

"School of Fish" will be Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m., and "Incredible Crustaceans" Sept. "Salt Marsh Investigation" will be Sept. 24 and Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. "Happiness is a Horseshoe Crab" will be held Sept. 24, and "Lenape and the Jersey Shore" Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. Cost is $8, $6 for children younger than age 18, and free for children younger than age 3. Programs runs approximately two hours, and all programs begin at 1:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Early preregistration is strongly suggested. Minigolf event for M'town landmark Sept. 16

The Friends of MacLeod-Rice House and Middletown Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs will hold a miniature golf outing Sept. 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Middletown Miniature Golf Course, Tindall Road (rain date Sept. 23 and 24). Proceeds will benefit the MacLeod-Rice House, which welcomes visitors to the Parks & Recreation at Croydon Hall, 800 Leonardville Road, Leonardo section of Middletown. The MOMS Club of Aberdeen/Matawan is selling Macy's discount coupons at $5 each for the Sept. 16 Macy's Shop for a Cause event. The coupons will allow the bearer to 20 percent off most items, $10 off for $50 spent, giveaways and prizes.

The program will teach about Sukkot through activities such as crafts, storytelling and songs.

Alzheimer's caregiver support meetings slated

The Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, will hold caregiver support group meetings Sept. 13 at Kensington Court, 864 Shrewsbury Ave., Tinton Falls; Sept. 19 at Bayshore Community Hospital, 727 N. Volunteers sought for agency's youth help line

The 2nd Floor Youth Helpline, a program of 180 Turning Lives Around Inc., Hazlet, is seeking individuals age 18 and older interested in becoming trained volunteers to offer guidance and help to adolescents in the community. The call center is located in the Bayshore area.

Training will begin in October and involves 40 hours of combined classroom and on-the-job shadowing sessions to learn from trained personnel. Training will be held at the Monmouth County Agricultural Center, Freehold Township.

The Hazlet Township Senior Citizen Club is seeking 10-15 couples to fill its second bus for a trip to Miami and Key West, Fla., Feb. 9-17.

Brookdale Music Club to perform Sept. 17
