Assemblyman Sam Thompson (R-13), New Jersey AMVETS programs director Bobbi Horowitz, and former Assemblyman Captain Joe Azzolina (Ret.), began Operation DVD Sept. 11 at Foodtown, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. The campaign is a nationwide effort to collect one million used and new DVDs for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Operation DVD collection boxes have been installed in all ten of the FoodCircus Foodtown stores owned by Azzolina, with local stores in Port Monmouth, Keyport, Red Bank, Oakhurst and Wanamassa sections of Ocean Township, and West End section of Long Branch. Boxes are also at Azzolina's Spirit Liquors, Middletown, and Red Bank. Diane Raver, executive director of the Garden State Film Festival, is also taking part in the effort, and donating copies of its entire library of New Jersey produced independent films to Operation DVD. Tom Trewhella, Middletown, has joined the advertising agency of ML Rogers, New York City, as account director on Scotts Miracle-Gro. Prior to joining Rogers, Trewhella held senior vice president/group account director positions at Lowe Worldwide, New York City; Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company; and Deutsch, New York; and Bank of America. He received his bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies at the University of Delaware, Newark. Trewhella and his wife are the parents of three children.
We Care Adult Care Inc., 500 Route 35 south, Middletown, will celebrate National Adult Day Services Week Sept. 17-23, beginning with a breakfast Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. An off-sight outing will be Sept. 19, and Family & Friends Day Sept. 20. Entertainment by Fred Quinn will be Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office will provide free photo IDs to Monmouth County residents age 50 and older Sept. 22 at 11 a.m., followed by a closing party with entertainment by Lou and Eleanor at 1:30 p.m. All the above are free and open to the public. Preregistration is required for the IDs, and may be done by calling the center at (732) 741-7363.
Home Away From Home Academy, Aberdeen, has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools, following a nine-month review by the commission. Accredited schools must meet rigorous guidelines and stringent requirements. Home Away From Home, owned by Phyllis and Carmine Visone, offers education for children age three months up until second grade.
