Two Rt. 36 businesses burglarized

MIDDLETOWN - Local authorities are still on the lookout for suspects behind two burglaries early last week.

The first incident took place during the overnight hours of Sept. 3-4 at the A&P supermarket on Route 36 in the Navesink section of town. The burglary was discovered when a store employee came in on the morning of Sept. 4 to find the cash registers opened with no money in them.

Investigators and store employees at the scene were not able to determine how the suspect or suspects got into the store.

In another incident two nights later, the Marina Diner on Route 36 in Belford was burglarized. Entry was made through a rear window of the restaurant and cash was stolen from the register.

According to Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti, the amount of cash taken in each incident was unknown, and the burglaries are most likely unrelated.

Anyone with information on either case is encouraged to contact the Middletown Police Department at (732) 615-2100.
