Riette Pichler Armstrong

Mrs. Armstrong, 97, of Middletown died Sept. 16 at CareOne at King James, Middletown. Born in Red Bank, she was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County, and Middletown. An avid horsewoman, she owned, managed, and taught riding at Shoestring Stables, Middletown, more than 65 years. Following retirement, she rode with Special People United to Ride (SPUR). She enjoyed going to Monmouth Park Racetrack. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles C. Armstrong in 1962. She is survived by her lifelong friend, Antoinette Schlidge. A funeral service will be Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements are by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Veronica H. Zalewski Domalewski

Mrs. Domalewski, 86, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Sept. 11 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Laurence Harbor, and Keansburg, prior to moving to Port Monmouth five years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. She was a member of the Middletown Seniors Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Adam Domalewski in 1981; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by two sons, Anthony Domalewski of the Belford section of Middletown, and Richard Domalewski of Marlboro; a sister, Jennifer Plodzien of Whiting; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Cornelius Thompson

Mr. Thompson, 92, of Matawan, died Sept. 18 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Sayreville, prior to moving to Matawan 37 years ago. He handled maintenance at Weston Instruments, Newark, for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He enjoyed reading, and was an avid bowler. He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Thompson in 1980. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Josephine Thompson of Ridgefield, and Neil and Patricia Thompson of Bloomsbury; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 21 from 1-4 p.m. at Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709-3498.

Hilary J. Malleus

Miss Malleus, 21, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died June 6 from injuries she received in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Red Bank, she was a lifelong resident of Leonardo. She was a graduate of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Sandy Hook, and pursued a bachelor's degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Miss Malleus was a waitress and hostess at Chili's Restaurant, Holmdel, the past year, and a lifeguard and swim instructor at Monmouth Day Camp, Middletown, for several years. She danced with the Performing Arts Ensemble, Red Bank. She enjoyed art, sewing, animals, and the beach. She is survived by her parents, Patrice G. and Gene F. Malleus of Leonardo; a sister, Lisa Malleus of Leonardo; her maternal grandmother, Madeline Garnich of Trenton; three aunts and four uncles; and several cousins. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to The Hilary J. Dorothea Fehlhaber Brooks

Mrs. Brooks, 78, of the Navesink section of Middletown, died Sept. 11 at home. Born in Highlands, she relocated to Navesink in 1956. She was employed at the U.S. Postal Service, Navesink, for 15 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and Atlantic City. She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Lawrence L. Brooks; two brothers, William E. and Martin Dale Fehlhaber; and a sister-in-law, Elsie May Fehlhaber. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry M. and Kathleen Brooks of Maryland; a daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Dean Rougeau of Navesink; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Anita D. DiChiara

Mrs. DiChiara, 86, of Middletown, died Sept. 12 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Kerhonkson, N.Y., prior to moving to Middletown five years ago. She was employed in banking in New York City for several years. She enjoyed dancing, old movies, and Spanish music. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis DiChiara; two sisters, Sarah Alverez and Trini Calvo; and two brothers, Tony and Pepe Solis. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Anita and Anthony Russo of Middletown, and Susan Hartmann of the Belford section of Middletown; two sisters, Molly Rocha of Kerhonkson, N.Y., and Connie Bajo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. Burial was at Palentown Cemetery, Rochester, N.Y. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Eugene L. Dondero

Mr. Dondero, 84, of Hazlet, died Sept. 12 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Hoboken, he resided in North Bergen, prior to moving to Hazlet 20 years ago. He was a custodian and boilerman at North Bergen Board of Education for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, and Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He was a member of the Keyport Seniors and Holy Family Seniors. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Dondero in 1972. He is survived by a daughter, Dolores Magenheimer of Hazlet; a sister, Grace Sajtlava of Monroeville; a brother, Albert Dondero of Fredon; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church. Interment was at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Andrew "Bud" J. Hulsart Jr.

Mr. Hulsart, 76, of Keyport, died Sept. 13 at Bayshore Health Care, Holmdel. Born in South Amboy, he resided in Matawan, prior to moving to Keyport 53 years ago. He was a retired lineman at JCP&L Co., Union Beach. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, where he was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a member of the Keyport Democratic Club, and former member of the Keyport First Aid Squad and Fire Department. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Madeline Frank Hulsart in 2003. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and John Stankiewicz, and Kathy and Harry Sobko, all of Keyport; two sisters, Mary McGowan and Patricia Crowley; a brother, Jack Hulsart; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Adelaide C. Aull Vashey

Mrs. Vashey, 70, of Hazlet, died Sept. 15 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Nyack, N.Y., she was a lifeong resident of the Bayshore area She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by a sister, Caroline; two brothers, Gus and Clarence; a son, Arthur; and a grandson, Robert. She is survived by her husband, Jeremiah Vashey; six sons, James, Jerome, Craig, David, Guissepe and Maritzio; four daughters, Donna, Katherine, Patricia and Carol; two brothers; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
