Park System's ceramics workshops begin Nov. 8
The Monmouth County Park System will offer a ceramic workshops for children age 5-8 and parents, beginning with "Autumn Serving Plate" Nov. 8 from 4-5:30 p.m. "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" will be Dec. 2 from 12:30-2 p.m., with a second session 2:30-4 p.m. Participants at either workshop will decorate a serving plate that will be kiln fired and ready for pickup the following week. Cost is $23 per pair for either workshop. A wheel-thrown and altered pottery workshop will be Nov. 18 from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how to throw off center, incise, cut away, and reshape, as well as how to use "mistakes" intentionally for enhancement. Cost is $35 per person, and materials may be purchased at the creative arts center. All the above are at the arts center at Thompson Park, 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. A cook stove demonstration will be Nov. 18 from noon-2 p.m. at Longstreet Farm, Longstreet Road, Holmdel. Attendees will help prepare a dish using Victorian era tools and techniques. Music Man Rich Marzec will perform turn-of-the-century songs at the farm Nov. 19 from 1-3 p.m. A blacksmith demonstration will also be from 1-3 p.m. A candy making demonstration will be Nov. 25 from 1-3 p.m. All the above are free to the public.
