Obituaries Helen S. Elkins Mrs. Elkins, 91, died Oct. 27, 2006, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Long Branch, she resided in Fair Haven for 52 years. She was employed in retail sales at Vogel's Department Store, Red Bank, for 20 years. She was a communicant of Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. She was a member of the church's Nifty 50s Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Elkins in 1979; and three brothers, John, Charles and Alex. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Isaac Leventhal Sr. of the Belford section of Middletown; a daughter, Joan Elkins of Brick; a sister, Elizabeth Bacigalupi of Brick; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Patrick Tully Basilicato Mr. Basilicato, 17, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died Nov. 2, 2006, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Patchogue, N.Y. He was a junior at Middletown High School South. He as predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John Tully in 1993; and his paternal grandmother, Eileen Basilicato in 2005. He is survived by his parents, Patrick Shawn and Kathleen Tully Basilicato; a brother, Bronson Basilicato of Leonardo; his maternal grandmother, Honor Tully of Hollywood, Fla.; his paternal grandfather, Patsy Basilicato of Patchogue, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Raymond A. Preziosi Mr. Preziosi, 74, of Middletown, died Oct. 30, 2006. He resided in Hazlet, prior to moving to Middletown in 1968. He was a meat cutter at various Foodtown grocery stores for 20 years, most recently Red Bank, retiring in 1997. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Giants and Rangers. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Irene Haider Preziosi; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Raymond J. Preziosi of Neptune City, and Kenneth P. and Debra Preziosi of East Brunswick; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosemarie and John Lynch of Lodi; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Church. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Filomena M. Barbarossa Tartaglia Mrs. Tartaglia, 80, of Atlantic Highlands, died Oct. 31, 2006, at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Belleville, she resided in Bloomfield, prior to moving to Atlantic Highlands 10 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was active in social activities at Portland Pointe, where she resided. She was predeceased by her husband, Vito Tartaglia in 1980; and a brother, Fred Barbarossa. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Patricia Tartaglia of Middletown; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by John F. George Warren Mr. Warren, 81, of North Brunswick, died Oct. 31, 2006, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in North Brunswick the past 30 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6572, North Brunswick. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Zsamboky Warren in 1999. He is survived by two sons, George A. Warren of Ocean, and James Warren of Connecticut; a sister, Lilly Norbut of Matawan; a brother, Harry Warren of Colts Neck; and three grandchildren. James Conklin Mr. Conklin, 78, of Middletown, died Oct. 28, 2006, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there prior to moving to Middletown seven years ago. He was a retired motion picture laboratory technician. Prior to that, he was on the New York City Fire Patrol. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 338, Leonardo section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Conklin in 1995. He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Helen F. Conklin of Brooklyn, N.Y., John J. Conklin of New York City, and Kevin B. and Ellen Conklin of Staten Island, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith M. and Kevin M. Shaughnessy of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jean Conklin of Flanders, N.Y.; a sister, Marie Minogue of Colorado; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. Arrangements were by John F. Donald Joseph Syers Mr. Syers, 67, of Holmdel, died Oct. 28, 2006, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Holmdel 22 years, and also had a home in Sea Bright. He was president, and owner and operator with his wife of Hurricane Fence Company Inc., Port Monmouth section of Middletown, for 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. His memberships included the Middletown Lion's Club, American Cancer Society, Middletown Chamber of Commerce, and Children's Cultural Center Committee, Red Bank. He enjoyed music, fishing, boating and gardening. He was predeceased by a brother, Herb "Juny" Syers; a grandson, Matthew Mokrzycki; and a nephew, Lawrence Lembo. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Fincken Syers; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Denise Syers of Atlantic Highlands, Donna and Rick Pepsny of Atlantic Highlands, and Debra and David Maddox of Dripping Springs, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and John Lembo of Toms River; a sister-in-law, Ruth Navarra of Hazlet; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Catharine's Church. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
