| FREEHOLD - A Hazlet woman and two men from Jersey City have been indicted in the murder of an Asbury Park man on New Year's Eve.
Angela Pizzarelli, 25, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, Antoine Dennis, 26, and his brother Andre, 21, both of Jersey City, were charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. The Dennis brothers are also charged with certain persons not to have firearms, a second-degree offense.
On Dec. 31 at about 10 p.m., police in Asbury Park responded to the residence of Saahron Jones, located on Seventh Avenue. Jones, 27, was reportedly found face down with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head. His hands were tied behind his back and a pillow was placed at the back of his head, apparently to muffle the sound of the gunshot.
An investigation concluded that Pizzarelli and the Dennises drove to Asbury Park to rob Jones at his home. During the course of the robbery, Jones was shot, while his 17-year-old brother, who was unharmed during the incident, was made to watch. Pizzarelli was arrested on Jan. 3, while the Dennises were picked up 12 days later.
If convicted, the trio could face life sentences and would have to serve 30 years before being eligible for parole. The Dennises also face another 10 years if convicted on the additional firearms charge.
Pizzarelli previously served six months in 2001 for helping to plan and execute an armed robbery six years ago in Ocean County. According to New Jersey Department of Corrections records, she was put back in prison from June 2002 to May 2003 for a probation violation.
Pizzarelli is currently being held at the Monmouth County jail, Freehold, on $1.5 million bail. The Dennis brothers are in the same facility on $2.5 million bail each.
"This was a premeditated and brutal crime," Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said in a press release. "Police in Monmouth County remain committed to the goal of eliminating such senseless gun violence."
