Music teacher gets 7 years

FREEHOLD - A music teacher from Middletown was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting two teenage girls.

Superior Court Judge Bette Uhrmacher handed the sentence down on Friday to Anthony Spinato, 25, a music teacher at Cardinal McCarrick High School, South Amboy, after having pleaded guilty to two second-degree counts of sexual assault. The sentence requires that Spinato comply with the registration and notification requirements of Megan's Law, as well as serve a sentence of parole supervision for life upon release from prison.

Between March and April 2006, Spinato engaged in sexual activity with two 16-year-olds at his Middletown home. In May, the matter was brought to the attention of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, which then referred the case to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

At the time of his arrest, Spinato was released on $10,000 bail.
