County residents graduate Citizen Police Academy FREEHOLD - Twenty-eight residents successfully completed the 12th annual Citizen Police Academy as part of a graduation ceremony held on Nov. 8 at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold. Sheriff Joseph Oxley was joined by United States Marshal James Plousis, who presented a program on the U.S. Marshals Service prior to the graduation ceremony. Citizens Police Academy strives to build cooperation and understanding between law enforcement and the residents they serve through classroom discussion and group interaction. The program is offered in cooperation with the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, Police Academy and the Prosecutor's Office. Residents selected for the 10-week program receive classroom instruction on topics including crime prevention, crime scene investigations, narcotics awareness, the various divisions of the Sheriff's Office, international policing, emergency management, women in law enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
