Middletown is worse off without town center
No town center. No movie theater, no ice rink, no maritime museum, no $4 million in tax revenue, no place for the folks from Middletown to meet and greet.
And, no traffic increase - you wish. Route 35 traffic has increased five times what it was 10 years ago. Where are all the cars going? Red Bank to shop and dine, to Holmdel to shop and dine. To Red Bank to see a movie, to Hazlet to see a movie. Not to Middletown. Where are all the upscale stores for shopping? Red Bank, Holmdel. Where is Middletown's movie theater ... ahhh, ahhh ... Red Bank.
What has the present governing body given you? Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonald's, condos, condos and more condos. More traffic, 1,000 cars to the Belford ferry every morning. More police? No, no ... no. Thank you, Township Committee.
You are right, Mayor Hall. We have no town center, but we have the traffic ... but not the business ... 3,000 jobs down the drain, and we don't have the police to control the traffic we do have.
So, folks, if you like the traffic - most of which are just driving through - if you think the lack of police makes Middletown Township safer, and you like taking most of your business to another town, be sure and thank Mayor Thomas Hall and our Township Committee. If you are looking for a place to meet some Middletown friends, try the arts center by the noisy train station that cost over $5 million and still isn't open.
