The Hazlet United S.A. Crush U9 boys journeyed to the Soccer Palace of West Orange and took part in their annual Thanksgiving weekend indoor full field travel tournament where they were awarded a well-deserved second place in the U9 boys travel flight. Hazlet faced Ironbound S.C. in their first game and the Crush delivered with an impressive 3-2 win. Their second game of the tourney matched the Crush with Cougars S.C. where they chalked up their second win with another close 2-1 victory. Game three was a tough one that matched Hazlet with N.E.T.S.A. Barcelona of Long Island, N.Y. The Crush gave it their best efforts in this very close game but were handed their first loss of the tournament 1-0 by the skillful New York squad.
The championship match saw the Hazlet Crush and N.E.T.S.A. Barcelona do battle once again but it would be Barcelona who would walk away with the 2-1 win at the final whistle. Although Hazlet was defeated in the championship match, it was, by far, the most exciting game of the tournament. Barcelona, displaying superior passing, were certainly given a run for their money by the young Crush squad in both meetings.
Next up for the Hazlet Crush will be the U9 5 v. 5 winter travel league played in the Tab Ramos Sports Center of Aberdeen. The squad will begin their indoor season the last week of December and look forward to another exciting 10 weeks of soccer action.
