Award-winning plan was dismantled by Republicans

On Oct. 25, Holmdel was given a Merit Award by the Monmouth County Planning Board for Holmdel's master plan amendments. These amendments addressed the planning and development of the last remaining undeveloped tracts of land in the southwest corner of the township.

This plan took over two years to develop and was well thought out and designed. It sought to retain the historic character of Holmdel Village and to provide larger homes in a more rural area. These amendments were passed by the Holmdel Planning Board and endorsed by then-Mayor Larry Fink and the Democratic majority in 2005.

It is ironic that Mayor Serena DiMaso and her 2006 Republican majority have extensively dismantled the amendments, reverting to large lots, reducing open space and decreasing our water supply protection. The very charming area on South Holmdel Road will not be developed in keeping with the existing houses.

Holmdel is the loser because of the changes made by the new administration.
