Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, has announced the appointment of Claire Gabert, owner of Gabert Designs, East Windsor, to a two-year term as a member of the advisory committee. She will offer her expertise in interior design and architecture to help revise and maintain the college's career-related curriculum for consultation as it relates to her field. Gabert is also an adjunct instructor at the college.
Brookdale's Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution has received the George Washington Honor Medal of the National Awards Program by the Freedoms Foundation. The college's entry for the adult community category was specific to programs by groups or individuals that "go above and beyond the call of duty" on a local, regional or national level, which promote good works and serve communities on an ongoing basis.
The Freedoms Foundation sponsors diverse educational and award programs and receives support from volunteer members in 31 chapters, as well as corporations, foundations and civic organizations nationwide.
Cynthia D. Newman, Holmdel, senior vice president-wealth management at Smith Barney, New York City, attended the first "Top Women Advisers Summit," hosted by Barron's magazine in mid-November. Newman joined 77 of the top 100 female financial advisers nationwide at the conference, where the advisers led sessions about topics such as compensation issues and endowments. Assemblyman Sam Thompson (R-Monmouth) is offering one-on-one individual assistance with the Medicare Part D prescription drug plan Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middletown Library, 55 New Monmouth Road. Open enrollment for the program ends Dec. 31. Individuals interested in assistance should call for an appointment and bring medications, or a list of medications, including dosages, and Medicare card to the appointment. Jingles Key Center opened Dec. 1 at ShopRite Supermarket, 318 Lloyd Road, Aberdeen. The center will provide key-cutting services for house keys, automotive keys and padlock keys. The center will also offer key accessories, signs and brass house numbers, and will program car "ChipKeys."
CPC Behavioral Healthcare's culinary adventure in late October raised $35,000 for CPC counseling programs to benefit children, teens and adults in need. Tastings were provided by chefs from several area restaurants, and celebrity chef Scott Landry began the evening cooking gumbo and telling stories. CPC, Middletown, provides mental health and addiction recovery services, employee assistance programs, special education and residential services.
The Monmouth County Arts Council (MCAC) will hold a book fair and fundraising gift-wrapping event Dec. 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 2134 Route 35, Holmdel. The event will also feature a book-signing by cookbook author, "The Food Maven," Arthur Schwartz Dec. 16 from 2-4 p.m. He will sign his books, which include "Soup Suppers" and "Naples at Table." Patrons may get book fair vouchers online at and use vouchers when purchasing books and other items during the event. Brookdale Community College, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown, will host the 17th annual "Jersey Shore Home Show" Jan. 12 from 1-9:30 p.m., Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Jan. 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The show will feature vendors dispensing information on renovations, landscaping, replacing appliances, and other topics. Louis D. Tambaro, Holmdel, has joined the Red Bank law firm of Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla, P.C. as an associate. Tambaro is a member of the commercial litigation department and concentrates his practice in civil litigation pertaining to real estate and corporate disputes. Prior to joining the firm, he served as law clerk for Judge Louis F. Locascio, J.S.C., Superior Court, Monmouth County. Tambaro received his law degree at Fordham University School of Law, New York City, and was recipient of the Archibald R. Murray Award for Public Service. He received his bachelor's degree at New York University. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and New York.
The second annual "Unity Bash" for Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), Keansburg, raised more than $90,000 for the nonprofit that helps displaced families in Monmouth County. The mid-November event at Shore Casino, Atlantic Highlands, was attended by more than 420 guests. The event committee was chaired by Eric Hinds. IHN president Chuck Payette and network director Bill Davis presented Hinds with the Bob Messina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service at the event. The award honors individuals that have gone above and beyond the call of duty. |
