Witmer hearing postponed

MIDDLETOWN — The latest chapter of the administrative hearing of township Schools Superintendent Dr. David Witmer has been postponed until at least January.

The hearing was slated to resume on Monday, with Witmer, who has been suspended by the township’s Board of Education since Jan. 31, expected to take the stand to be crossexamined. Witmer, who is presently being paid an annual salary of about $177,000, is accused of misappropriating approximately $23,000 worth of vacation and personal time. Witmer testified that, prior to his suspension, he had no clue there was a problem with the way he was reporting his personal or vacation days.

Those who have testified thus far include Business Administrator/Board Secretary William Doering, Board of Education President Dawn Diorio, Personnel Director Laurie Allocco, Board Attorney Chris Parton, Assistant Superintendent Chris Halpin, former board President and current board member Joan Minnuies, and Witmer.

Office of Administrative Law spokeswoman Randye Bloom said that there was no timetable available as to when the hearing will continue before Judge Joseph Martone.
