Walks, tours at Sandy Hook during January

The American Littoral Society, Sandy Hook, will present a New Year’s Day walk “Round the Hook” Jan. 1 at 11 a.m. beginning at building 18, Fort Hancock, Sandy Hook. For more information, call (732) 291-0055.

A “Winter Night Prowl” will be Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. beginning at the visitor center. Attendees should bring a flashlight for the walk along the Hook’s beaches or trails. “Harbor Lights” will be Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at Twin Lights State Historic Site, Highlands. Attendees will discover the lighthouses, lightships and buoys that guided ships into New York Harbor. The event is free, but reservations are required and may be made by calling (732) 872-1814. A holly forest walk will be Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. beginning at the visitor center, and will explore the Hook’s 64-acre holly forest.
