Joseph C. Bucco Sr.

Mr. Bucco, 76, of Matawan, died Dec. 18, 2006, at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident. He was a transmission foreman at JCP&L Company, Farmingdale, retiring in 1988. He was a retired police officer with Keyport, Matawan and Matawan Township Police Departments. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 23, Keyport. He was a past president of Oak Shades Fire Department, and a past director of Matawan Borough Recreation. He was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan, where he was a past president of the Holy Name Society. He was an avid sports fan, and member of Matawan High School football Hall of Fame. He was predeceased by five brothers, Philip Bucco, Robert Bucco, Frank Bucco, Lawrence Bucco and Russell Bucco; and a sister, Dominica Venezia. He is survived by his wife, Louise Lamberson Bucco; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Todd Detwiler of Chester Springs, Pa., Patricia and Victor Waitt of Middletown, and Regina and Bernard McLaughlin of Matawan; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Joseph and Donna Bucco Jr. of Hazlet, and Michael Bucco of Matawan; three sisters, Mary Buoanno of Morganville, Angelina Mizell of Keyport, and Annie Caden of Amarillo, Texas; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be Dec. 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Clement’s Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

Maureen M. Emmons Sherank

Mrs. Sherank, 69, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died Dec. 12, 2006, at home. Born in Jersey City, she resided there prior to moving to Middletown 50 years ago. She was a secretary at Bell Labs, Holmdel, for several yeas. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas Sherank; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Peggy and Pete Lawlor of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, Susan Sherank of Atlantic Highlands, and Bridget and Scott Bauer of Middletown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas and Eileen Sherank of Middletown, and Mark Sherank of Atlantic Highlands; and seven grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

William Dressler

Mr. Dressler, 76, of Middletown, died Nov. 27, 2006, at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Middletown most of his life. He was the executive director of the New Jersey Gasoline Retailers’ Association the past 16 years. Prior to that, he owned and operated service stations for several years. He served with the U.S. Navy in the submarine service. He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, Middletown. He was a Life Member of the National Registry of Who’s Who, and board member of Associated Master Trust, Springfield. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dolores Giglio Dressler; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl Dressler, William and Susan Dressler, and Robert and Kristin Dressler, all of Middletown; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Darlene and Douglas Langlois of Ocean Gate, Claudia Dressler and Robert Henneman of Brick, Charlotte Bouchard of Davie, Fla., and Terry Kears of Brick; two sisters, Bernice Kubian of Frenchtown, and Florence Moore of South Amboy; and seven grandchildren. A funeral service was held at King of Kings Church. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Marion M. McCoy McDowell

Mrs. McDowell, 87, of Middletown, died Dec. 13, 2006, at Care One at Middletown, King James. Born in Hazleton, Pa., she resided in Middletown most of her life. She was an elementary school teacher at Middletown Township Board of Education for 32 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the National Education Association, and New Jersey Education Association. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, David W. McDowell Jr. in 1983. She is survived by a daughter, Anne Ginevan of Florida; two sons, David McDowell of Texas, and Richard McDowell of Middletown; a sister, Joan Donegan of New York; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Gloria A. Christie

Ms. Christie, 78, of Aberdeen, died Dec. 11, 2006, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there prior to moving to Aberdeen 20 years ago. She was a writer at various financial magazines. She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel F. Christie in 1979. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements were by Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge.

Joseph R. Thompson

Mr. Thompson, 70, of Huntsville, Ala., died Dec. 10, 2006, at Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital. Born in Paisley, Scotland, he resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Matawan prior to moving to Huntsville. He was employed with the Amtrak Police Department for 25 years, retiring as superintendent in 1987. Prior to that, he was employed at several police departments and agencies. Mr. Thompson was a former Matawan Borough Council member, and past president of Freneau Volunteer Fire Company, Matawan, and a former member of the Monmouth County Democratic Committee. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His memberships included Guadalcanal Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Cliffwood section of Aberdeen, and the Columbus (N.Y.) Council Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Mary Rudloff Thompson of Middletown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Robin and Bob Marella of Hazlet, and Lynn Thompson of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jackie Thompson of Matawan; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Katharine A. Walty Pagano

Mrs. Pagano, 81, of Toms River, died Dec. 12, 2006, at Rose Garden Nursing Home, Toms River. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Hazlet prior to moving to Toms River. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Pagano. She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Susko of Toms River, and Patricia Pagano of Tinton Falls; a son, Stephen Pagano of Freehold; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Entombment was at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Richard D. Harrison

Mr. Harrison, 69, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died Dec. 15, 2006, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Leonardo most of his life. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Harrison in 2005, and a brother-in-law, Robert C. Warth in 2005. He is survived by two sisters, his twin, Lois Harrison of Leonardo, and Nancy Warth of Little Silver; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tom and Shirley Harrison of Naples, Fla., Harry and Cassie Harrison of Mays Landing, and Jack Harrison of Eatontown; a niece; and five nephews. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Troy M. Bennage

Mr. Bennage, 92, of Holmdel, died Dec. 14, 2006, at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. Born in Flatcreek, Mo., he resided in Keyport prior to moving to Holmdel. He was a flooring specialist at Peterson & Son Flooring for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, attaining rank of Ship’s Cook 2nd Class. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Rose May Bennage in 1991; and a daughter, Marlene Yale in 2003. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Francine Bennage of North Charleston, S.C., and Eddie and Francine Glenney of Ocala, Fla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen and Paul Terzulli of Keyport, Phyllis Durrett of Homosassa, Fla., and Linda and Joseph Budner of Beverly Hills, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Elsie Catherine Smith Restaino

Mrs. Restaino, 87, of Tinton Falls, died Dec. 13, 2006. Born in Newark, she resided in Fair Haven, Tinton Falls, and West Virginia prior to relocating to Tinton Falls. She was a retired employee of Kresge Department Store, and Charmes Candies. She enjoyed time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Carmine in 1986; and two sisters, Eleanor MacInnes and Myrtle Hock. She is survived by a son, John of West Virginia; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Fred Wikoff of Tinton Falls; three sisters, Dorothy D’Alessio of Little Silver, Marion Clementi of Florida, and Florence Barreli of South Carolina; four grandchildren; and four great-grandsons. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown. Gerard “Jerry” T. Hurley

Mr. Hurley, 59, of Hazlet, died Dec. 14, 2006, at Raritan Bay Hospital, Old Bridge. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there prior to moving to Hazlet 21 years ago. He was a Lieutenant Court Officer at the Supreme Court of New York State, Brooklyn, for 34 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an avid Jets and Mets fan, and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Bendas Hurley; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Gerard and Rachel Hurley Jr., Sean Hurley and Stephen Hurley, all of Hazlet; a brother, Leo Hurley Jr. of Peterboro, N.C.; and two granddaughters. Interment was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
