CBA’s Pierson third in 1,000 at season opener
The Bishop Loughlin Invitational helped start the 2006-07 scholastic indoor track and field season.
Held at the New York Armory, the meet helped sprinters, hurdlers and throwers shake off the rust with their first competitions since the summer, and for cross country runners, the first opportunity to wake up those fast twitch muscles.
Christian Brothers Academy’s Brendon Pierson finished third in the 1,000 meters, posting a 2:34.82.
CBA’s 4x800 relay team was second to Iona Prep (8:03.38-8:11.05).
It will be a very busy season for area track and field athletes with competitions taking them from the Armory in New York City to the Jersey City Armory, the Rothman Center at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Seton Hall University and Toms River North High School (hosting the state meets this year).
Other key early-season dates in December are the Spike Shoe Invitational at the New York Armory today, the Seton Hall Invitational Dec. 26-27, and the Marine Corps Invitational, also at the New York Armory, Dec. 27.
In January, the State Relays are the 12th-14th. The New Balance Games, back at the Armory, are Jan. 20. The Monmouth County Relays in Toms River are Jan. 25.
The 100th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 2 will start February with a bang.
The Monmouth County Championships are Feb. 3 in Toms River and the Shore Conference are Feb. 10 in Toms River.
The State Group Championships are Feb. 15-18. The All-Groups Meet of Champions will be held on two days, with the girls on Feb. 24 and the boys on the 25th. Toms River’s new facility is hosting these meets.
The Eastern States are Feb. 27 at the New York Armory.
The Scholastic Indoor Nationals are March 9-11 at the Armory with the Nike Invitation in Landover, Md., March 10-11.
