‘Mrs. Roosevelt’ to meet guests in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN — The Monmouth County Historical Association announces its 108th annual meeting and lecture to be held on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. The featured speaker will be Eleanor Roosevelt, as portrayed by Rene Goodwin of the American Historical Theatre. The event will be held at the Taylor-Butler House, 127 Kings Highway, Middletown. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the nation’s most beloved first ladies, is seen today as a woman ahead of her time. She made her mark in a political world that had been reserved primarily for men and was able to have a great impact on national politics during a critical time in the nation’s history.

Goodwin’s first-person interpretation will allow the audience to “meet” this remarkable woman and to ask her questions about her life. This program is offered through the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Light refreshments will be served and parking is available at nearby Middletown Village School. Admission is free, but guests are asked to call to register so that plans can be made for seating and refreshments. Register by calling (732) 462-1466.

The Monmouth County Historical Association’s museum and library is at 70 Court Street, Freehold. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is open Wednesday through Saturday.
