Aberdeen switches its township trash hauler
New vendor will recycle paper and plastic bottles
BY KAREN E. BOWES
Staff Writer

"Additionally, bulk pickups of appliances, carpeting, furniture and building materials will be offered on a more flexible schedule." - David Sobel Mayor
ABERDEEN - For anyone who has ever had their trash can thrown into the middle of the road, take heart.

The township has replaced its former hauler with a new garbage collection vendor they hope will generate fewer complaints from residents.

Future Sanitation of Farmingdale began their garbage, recycling and bulk pickup contract with the township on Jan. 17.

According to Mayor David Sobel, Future Sanitation will follow the collection schedule already in use. With the addition of paper products and plastic bottles, the only difference will be what the vendor collects.

"We'll now be recycling all paper goods in your household," said James Lauro, the director of public works. "Everything from magazines and junk mail to your kids' homework papers."

The paper goods will be collected once a month on the same day newspapers are picked up. On that date, residents should break up their cardboard and bundle it like a newspaper stack, the township suggests. Magazines, circulars, junk mail, telephone books and other similar items should be placed in a closed container. If preferred, the items can be placed in clear plastic bags within a closed container.

Also, plastic bottles, previously optional, must now be included in the monthly pickup of cans and glass containers.

"Additionally, bulk pickups of appliances, carpeting, furniture and building materials will be offered on a more flexible schedule," Sobel said.

Previously, bulk pickups could only be done on Wednesdays. They will continue to be offered free of charge, by appointment. To arrange one, call (732) 919-3345, or for more information, visit the township Web site at www.aberdeennj.org.
