The Aberdeen Republican Organization is now accepting applications from registered Republicans who are interested in running for mayor or Township Council. Potential candidates should submit their consideration for candidacy to the Aberdeen Republican Committee by March 8. Republican's Lincoln Day dinner Feb. 19
The Monmouth County Republican Party will present the 44th annual Lincoln Day dinner Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at Addison Park, Route 35, Aberdeen. Guest speaker will be Tagg Romney, son of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and senior adviser to the Mitt Romney for President Exploratory Committee. The event will feature a cocktail hour, hors d'oeuvres and serving stations. Candidates will also be in attendance. Tickets are $45 per person. Theater to host 'Not Now, Darling,' 'Little Red'
Soar Productions, 1110 Union Ave., Union Beach, will present "Not Now, Darling," Feb. 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 8 p.m.; and Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Residents Jim Walsh, Leonardo section of Middletown, and Dorothy Dobkowski, Matawan, will appear in the play. The comedy concerns mistaken identities, scantily clad women kept hidden in closets, mobsters, suspicious wives, and misguided shoppers. Tickets are $18, and $15 for children younger than age 12 and older than 60. The Raggle Taggle Players will present the interactive children's theater, "Little Red and the Hoods" Feb. 17 and 24 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Local resident Tia Romeo of Hazlet will perform in the play. Tickets are $10 for all seats. Reservations are recommended for the above, and refreshments are included. Mardi gras party at St. John's UMC Feb. 16
St. John's United Methodist Church (UMC), 2000 Florence Ave., Hazlet, will hold a mardi gras party and carnivale Feb. 16 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The event will feature dancing, games, "Big Easy" foods, and flavored coffees and teas. Street parking prohibited during snowstorms The Aberdeen Township Police Department wishes to remind residents parking is prohibited on township streets during a snowfall, and until streets are sufficiently plowed. Unoccupied vehicles in violation of the ordinance are subject to a summons and removal by police. Residents unsure of whether the resident's street is subject to no parking or alternate side parking restrictions should check the snow removal signs on the street or visit the township Web site at www.aberdeennj.org. Italian Honor Society's pasta dinner Feb. 22 The Holmdel High School chapter of the Italian Honor Society will sponsor an "all you can eat" pasta dinner Feb. 22 from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $10, $8 for students and senior citizens, and $5 for children younger than age 10. Volunteers sought for domestic violence team The Middletown Police Department, in collaboration with 180 Turning Lives Around, is currently recruiting volunteers for the new Middletown Domestic Violence Response Team. The volunteers will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information, referrals and a safety plan at the time of crisis. The volunteer advocates will respond only to police headquarters. Applicants must be 18 or older, have access to transportation, possess a valid driver's license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, and submit to background investigations. The completion of a 40-hour mandatory intensive training course is required and will be provided to successful applicants. The four-week course, three evenings a week, will begin the first week of June at a location in Middletown. To request an application or for further information, call Sgt. 'Daddy & Daughter Sweetheart Dance' Feb. 18 Holmdel Office of Parks & Recreation will hold a "Daddy & Daughter Sweetheart" dance Feb. 18 from 4-7 p.m. at the Holmdel Senior and Community Center, Crawfords Corner Road. Poetry reading in Keyport slated for Feb. 18

Middletown Township Library, 55 New Monmouth Road, will present a free concert, "Slavic Dreams and Dances," by Slovene pianist Marina Horak Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The romantic, classical concert will begin with a sonata by Lucijan Skerjanc and will include "In the Mist" by Janacek, a mazurka, barcarolle, and nocturne by Chopin, and "Seven Balkan Dances" by Marko Tajcevic. The library will host its first Chinese New Year celebration Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. The free program co-sponsored by Jersey Shore Chinese School, Holmdel, includes a lion dance, traditional Chinese dances, Chinese yo-yo performances, a drum ensemble, Chinese music, and even a Chinese dragon performed by the school's children. Tickets are required and may be picked up at the library. The library's board of trustees will meet Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
