Concetta Elizabeth Merlin Magistro
Mrs. Magistro, 88, of Victoria House, Matawan, died Feb. 10, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Richard Magistro in 1995. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jo An Magistro and Hank Stankiewicz of Marlboro; six brothers, Joseph Merlino and Paul Merlino, both of Las Vegas; Dominick Merlino and Louis Merlino, both of Florida; Barney Merlino of Ravenel, S.C.; and Frank Merlino of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; a sister, Lucy Neri of Englishtown; seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Feb. 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. A funeral service will be Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church, East Brunswick. Interment will be at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Cemetery, Arnytown.
Joseph Vincent Viola Sr.
Mr. Viola, 79, of Winthrop, Maine, died Jan. 22, 2007, at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta, Maine. Born in Palisades Park, he lived in Manalapan before moving to Winthrop 16 years ago. He was one of the five original toll collectors for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority in Woodbridge, where he worked for 40 years prior to retiring 17 years ago. In addition, he taught archery at the Monmouth Fish and Game Association in Monmouth, Maine. Mr. Viola was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Hills Viola, in 1989. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph V. Jr. and Patricia Viola of Winthrop; a brother, Ralph Viola of Hazlet; two sisters, Millie Pfieffer of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Alba Davidson of Aurora, Colo.; and two grandsons, Vincent and Corey. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.
Joseph Horvath
Mr. Horvath, 79, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Feb. 10, 2007, at Care One at King James, Middletown. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he resided in Clifton and Lodi prior to relocating to Port Monmouth 45 years ago. He was a retired carpenter at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown. Prior to that, he was involved in security at Earle Weapons Naval Depot, Colts Neck, and as a carpenter at Sea Coast Fish Factory, Belford section of Middletown. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, drawing, and baseball. He was predeceased by two brothers, Vince and Ernie Horvath; and a sister, Theresa Nicastro. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Carideo Horvath; three daughters and one son-in-law, Angela Buble and Margaret Blask, both of Pine Beach, and Theresa and Peter Barbahona of Neptune; a brother, Andrew Horvath of Lodi; a sister, Virginia Pfaff of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be Feb. 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral service will be Feb. 15 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. Burial will follow at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown.
Bernadette B. Severe
Mrs. Severe, 77, of Matawan, died Feb. 1, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Paterson. Born in Grand Saline, Haiti, she resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., before relocating to Matawan 16 years ago. Mrs. Severe was a self-employed dress designer, retiring in 1993. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, and a member of the Haitian Apostola Christian Prayer Group, Brooklyn. She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister. She is survived by her husband, Gerard Severe of Aberdeen; two daughters, Dr. Monique Severe of Freehold and Dr. Geralda Severe of Fairport, N.Y.; and two sons, Jacques Severe of Aberdeen and Louis Severe of Freehold. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church. Entombment will be Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. at the church's cemetery. Arrangements are by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Enrico Paone Jr.
Mr. Paone, 54, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Feb. 7, 2007. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there before relocating to Port Monmouth 19 years ago. Mr. Paone was a sanitation worker for the New York City Department of Sanitation. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. He was a member of Local 831, Uniformed Sanitation Men's Association, New York City. He was predeceased by his parents, Enrico and Mary Paone; and a sister, Stella Grossman. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Donna Allen Paone; two sons, Philip Paone and Vincent Paone, both of the Belford section of Middletown; a daughter, Katrina Paone of Belford; four brothers, Lawrence Paone, Vincent Paone, Tom Paone and Joseph Paone, all of Staten Island, N.Y., and two sisters, Phyllis Rosa and Maryann Grossman, both of Staten Island. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements are by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Donald J. Schroetter Sr.
Mr. Schroetter, 73, of Hazlet, died Feb. 1, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Orange, he resided in Union prior to relocating to Hazlet 46 years ago. He was a tool and die maker at Engineer Precision Casting Co. Middletown, for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He was a member of the American Legion, and Monmouth County Catholic Bowling League. He was a past commissioner of Hazlet Youth Little League. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Schroetter in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth; four sons, Donald J. Schroetter Jr. of Long Beach Island, David Schroetter of Hazlet, Tommy Schroetter of Highlands, and Brian Schroetter of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Tony Citarella of Middletown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Aileen and John Schon, and Betty and Larry Wolff; a sister-in-law, Ruth Schroetter; and six grandchildren. Helen E. Magella Kreidler
Mrs. Kreidler, 84, of Keyport, died Feb. 11, 2007, at Care One at Holmdel. Born in Johnstown, Pa., she resided in Carteret, Matawan, Red Bank and Connecticut, prior to relocating to Keyport. She was a retired secretary at W & J Sloans, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Kreidler in 2002. She is survived by a daughter, Kristina Kreidler of Keyport. Maryann Menna
Mrs. Menna, 84, of Long Branch, died Feb. 2, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was a lifelong resident of Red Bank, prior to relocating to Long Branch five years ago. She was a seamstress for Sigmund Eisner, Red Bank, during World War II. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She enjoyed time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Albert; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy of Red Bank; a daughter, Linda Alberto of Long branch; a brother, Thomas Mazzaroppi of the Belford section of Middletown; two sisters, Bessie LoPresti of California, and Alice Kaney of Ohio; and two grandchildren. Edward P. Beck Jr.
Mr. Beck, 87, of Keyport, died Feb. 2, 2007, at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Neptune, he resided in Whiting prior to relocating to Keyport five years ago. He was a machinist at Continental Connector, Long Island City, N.Y., for 30 yeas, retiring in 1983. He served with the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by his wife, Isabel Anthony Beck in 1986; and a daughter, Isabel Andersen in 1995. He is survived by a son-in-law, Ronald Andersen of Hazlet; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Beverly Kay Keeling Depko
Mrs. Depko, 46, of Jackson, died Feb. 2, 2007, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Charleston, W.Va., she had lived in Fontana, Calif., and in Keyport and East Brunswick before moving to Jackson 10 years ago. She was predeceased by her father, Marvin Keeling; a brother, Jeff Keeling; and her stepfather, Robert Melkowits. Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Thomas E. Depko; a son, Thomas A. Depko of Jackson; a stepson, Erik Depko of Jackson; her mother, Molly Keeling Melkowits, also of Jackson; four sisters, Retha Thompson of Moscow, Pa., Doris Bresnick of Matawan, Patricia Loveland of Monroe and Martha Shalayda of East Brunswick; and a brother, Marvin R. Keeling Jr. of Clearwater, Fla. A funeral service was held at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick, with private cremation planned. Antoinette E. "Cookie" DiRito
Mrs. DiRito, 62, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Feb. 3, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Hoboken, she resided in Rutherford prior to relocating to Port Monmouth 34 years ago. She was a hairdresser at Permanent Solutions & Station Salon, Rutherford, for several years. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter DiRito in 2004. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Dennis Burlew of Hazlet; two sisters, Evelyn Spina of Hoboken, and Madeline Giuliano of Brick; and a grandson. Rosemary Halley Fitzsimmons
Mrs. Fitzsimmons, 72, of Matawan, died Feb. 4, 2007, at Madison Center, Matawan. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Barefoot Bay, Fla., and Toms River, prior to relocating to Matawan. She was a bus driver at Worley Bus Co., Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Fitzsimmons in 1989. She is survived by two sons, Todd and Patrick; three daughters, Colleen, Elizabeth and Joanne; a brother, Steve Halley; a sister, Patricia Halley; and nine grandchildren. Robert E. Courter Sr.
Mr. Courter, 83, of Holmdel, died Feb. 5, 2007, at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Newark, he resided in Middletown for 58 years, prior to relocating to Holmdel two years ago. He was a lead custodian for Hazlet Township Board of Education for 21 years, retiring in 1988. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-45 during World War Ii. He was a past member of The Sportsman Hunting Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Courter in 1983; a son, Kenneth Courter in 1982; and a brother, Albert Courter in 1999. He is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Sharon Courter Jr. of Poway, Calif., and Richard Courter and Edwin Courter, both of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Cappy Piscitelli of Keansburg, Barbara and Ed Faiella of Marlboro, and Edna and William Cribbin of Middletown; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Anne Youberg Stevens
Mrs. Stevens, 83, of East Brunswick, died Feb. 5, 2007, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Merrick, N.Y., prior to relocating to East Brunswick in 1973. She was a register nurse at Middlesex County Visiting Nurses Association, North Brunswick, for 10 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of East Brunswick AARP, Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County, and Hammarskjold Junior High School mentors program. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Murray; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Stuart and Donna Stevens of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha L. and Elliott Ober of Matawan, and Karen S. and Steven Zweifler of Paoli, Pa.; a brother, Albert Youberg of Delray Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Interment was at Old Montefiore Cemetery, St. Albans, N.Y. James J. Coleridge Sr.
Mr. Coleridge, 85, of Hazlet, died Feb. 6, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Liverpool, England, he resided in Keyport prior to relocating to Hazlet 20 years ago. He was involved in furniture sales at West Furniture Co., Keyport, for 40 years. He served with the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander during World War II. He was a graduate of Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, Long Island, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Ellen M. Barry Coleridge; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Joanne Coleridge Jr. of Atlantic Highlands, Jeffrey Coleridge of Hazlet, and Gregory and Karen Coleridge of South Carolina; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen A. and Paul Safka of Manasquan; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mary T. McCaffrey Flanigan
Mrs. Flanigan, 96, of Middletown, died Feb. 6, 2007, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living, Middletown. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Toms River and Aberdeen, prior to relocating to Middletown three years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a volunteer at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was predeceased by her husband, Bertram Flanigan in 1987; two sons, John Flanigan and James Flanigan; and 10 siblings, of which she was the youngest. She is survived by a son, Kevin Flanigan of Bridgehampton, N.Y.; a daughter, Betty Martin of Aberdeen; two daughters-in-law, Eileen Flanigan of Queens, N.Y., and Rosemary Flanigan of Sanford, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at ST. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Lenore Ippolito
Mrs. Ippolito, 76, of Marlboro Township, died Feb. 6, 2007, at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there prior to relocating to Marlboro 10 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 2004. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Joseph Malvasio of Spotswood, Frances and Richard Romeo of Middletown, and Lenore and Michael Brancale of Manalapan; three brothers, James Galvano of the Avenel section of Woodbrige, Peter Galvano of Staten Island, N.Y., and Louis Galvano of Brooklyn; a sister, Mary Rizzuti of Long Island, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Church. Entombment was at St. Gabriel's Mausoleum, Marlboro. Arrangements were by Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.
John G. Droppa
Mr. Droppa, 44, of Freehold Township, died Feb. 7, 2007, at Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack. Born in Irvington, he had lived in Sayreville and Matawan before moving to Freehold Township in 1999. He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 18 years in its Summit and Monroe locations. Mr. Droppa was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was also a member of the Marlboro MVP Over 30 Men's Softball League. He was predeceased by his mother, Jean Sciuk Droppa, and a brother, Michael. Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Wendy Droppa; two daughters, Christina and Nicole Droppa, both at home; his father, Emil Droppa of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, Robert Droppa, also of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Jeanne Flanders of Moore, Okla., and Lorraine Eger of Rahway; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
