Community Bulletin Board Art exhibit, concert at Middletown Library
Middletown Public Library, 55 New Monmouth Road, will present an exhibit featuring illustrations from the book, "Butterfly Kisses and Wishes on Wings" by Nanci Hersh during the month of March.
Mixed-media artist Nanci Hersh, Middletown, wrote the book following her diagnosis with breast cancer, in order to help her two young children understand her illness. Hersh has assembled a representative selection of the words, sketches, and objects that inspired her illustrations for the book, as well as giclee prints, and its original artwork. The show also includes a selection of her artwork on paper. An artist's reception will be March 24 from 2-4 p.m., and Hersh will sign copies of the book March 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tracy Durkin, LCSW, family therapist, will be the guest speaker. Both are free and open to the public.
Slovenian pianist Marina Horak will perform her concert, "Slavic Dreams and Dances" March 3 at 3 p.m. at the library. The concert was originally scheduled for Valentine's Day, but was canceled due to weather. The classical music concert will include works of Marko Tajcevic and Lucijan Marija Skerjanc, as well as Leos' Janácek and Frédéric Chopin. It is co-sponsored by the Monmouth Conservatory of Music in Red Bank.

Certificate programs, Tut events at college
Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, will offer certificate offerings programs beginning in March with the certificate in nonprofit management in five courses from March 6-July 24. Each course is $116.
The 30-hour certificate in meeting and event planning and management will be offered Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24-April 21. Cost is $650, plus $89.99 for the textbook. The history and anthropology departments will continue its celebration of the return of the treasures of Tutankamun to the United States with a lecture March 6 featuring Bob Brier, known for having done the computed tomography (CT) scan on King Tut's mummy. Melinda Nelson-Hurst will discuss "Religion and the Afterlife in Ancient Egypt," April 1. Lectures are $3, and free for Brookdale students, faculty and staff. All are at 7 p.m. at the student life center.
A bus trip to see the collection of ancient Egyptian art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, will be March 4 from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Cost is $18, $15 for Brookdale staff and faculty, and $12 for students. A bus trip to the King Tut exhibit at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, will be April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $30, $25 for staff and faculty, and $20 for students.

Free tours of Vietnam Vets' Memorial offered
The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation, Holmdel, will offer free guided tours Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. through April 14. The tours are encouraged for high school seniors planning on applying for the foundation's $2,500 scholarships.
Deadline for submissions is April 20. Scholarships are awarded annually to two graduating seniors from New Jersey planning on furthering education at a college or university or trade/technical school. Winners will be notified in early May and will be awarded the scholarship May 28 during the Memorial Day ceremony held at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. In addition to the application and proof of acceptance to a college or trade school, applicants must submit a 250-300 word essay about the visit to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial.

'Crosses and Sauces' pasta dinner March 10
The health ministry at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 376 Maple Place, Keyport, will hold a pasta and meatball dinner, "Crosses and Sauces," March 10 from 4-9 p.m.
The BYOB event will featuring cooking by St. Joseph's the Rev. Ron and the Rev. Jim. There will also be raffle drawings for gift baskets, a 50/50, and a DJ. Cost is $10, $5 for children younger than age 12. Takeout is available. Proceeds benefit the health ministry.

Aberdeen Township to host blood drive March 6
Aberdeen Township will host a blood drive March 6 from 2-6 p.m. at town hall on Church Street. Donors must be age 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and have never had hepatitis. Registration will be on site. Call (732) 583-4200, ext. 134.
Auxiliary's craft show, St. Pat's party in March
The Ladies Auxiliary of Hazlet Fire Company No. 1, 570 Holmdel Road, will sponsor a craft show March 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be various crafts and merchandise for sale, as well as refreshments. Admission is free.
The auxiliary will hold a St. Patrick's Day party will be March 17 from 7-11 p.m. at the firehouse. The menu will consist of corned beef and cabbage, dessert, coffee and tea. There will also be a DJ, and door prizes at the BYOB event. Cost is $20 per person, ant attendees must be age 21 or older.

'Guys and Dolls' opens March 2 at Academy
Pegasus Production Company, Lincroft section of Middletown, will present "Guys and Dolls" March 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m., and March 4 at 2 p.m. at Henderson Theatre at Christian Brothers Academy, 850 Route 520, Lincroft. The cast will feature Jack Byrnes, Red Bank, as Sky, and John Gallagher, Holmdel, as Arvide. Stage manager is Ed Aliaga, Middletown.

Pallone to hold office hours beginning March 6
U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) will hold office hours at his satellite office at 201 Broad St., Matawan, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and thereafter on the first Tuesday of each month. The public is invited to voice concerns and opinions on issues facing the nation and to receive assistance with any problems or concerns they may experience with federal programs. A district representative from Pallone's office will be on hand to meet with interested constituents.
